"General Motors has disbanded its High Performance Vehicle Operations unit, which was responsible for creating such vehicles as the Cadillac CTS-V, Corvette ZR1, and Pontiac G8 GXP. GM’s high-performance vehicles will not be discontinued, but future replacements to these cars might never materialize. In other words, when GM’s existing high-performance models reach the end of planned production, they could be gone for good.

It wont solve much for them. I listened to the morons in congress complain about performance cars as if they are still building 454 Chevelle SSs. They are way behind the times in knowledge of the industry and should do a little more research in congress rather than populus ranting to make it look like they are doing something. GM wont argue with them for obvious reasons. I dont think this will last any more then 5 years before GM has a new performance division. I dont think this will be an absulute end to future GM products with performance engines but rather an end to the high horsepower options they've been offering. Lets face it, GMPD was always seeing just how much HP they could push outta a new block which was getting bigger and bigger every year. THIS REALLY SUCKS
It may mean the aftermarket will be busierthen before.

I can't imagine them dropping all SS models to sell hybrids. One, they won't sell any more cars and two, they completely remove any level of belief that they can engineer and build great cars. Most of the good stuff like suspensions and braking as well as engines comes from taking performance oriented designs, racing them or testing them as hard as possible and then making them a little more reliable to fit on everyday cars. I'd hate to see it, but GM needs to close and come back as one or two brands. Anyone who has been there more than 10 years and did not make a great design or offer a big change in the company goes out the door.

If anything the ZR1 would sell the same. Theres no car for that price that can compete, save for the Viper, and sometimes the GTR (depends on the comparrison).
