I agree, LQ9 all the way. Iron is stronger, and the weight difference is only like 60-80 lb.

Lol at making the decision based on iron vs aluminum strength. I'm going to imagine he won't be making anywhere near enough power to worry about that.

I'm going l76.. Aluminum 6.0 with factory l92 heads.

L92s only have marginally more displacement and cost almost double right now.

Why if you have a 2800# car would you go aluminum to save weight but if you have a 3400# car you would go iron and add 80# more?? That seems 100% backwards.80#s Is a whole lot on the front end. If ill spent money on lite weight suspension, brakes, rims, etc.. Why would I not spend and extra 5-700$ and save weight with the motor?

Exactly, youll never make enough power to break the aluminum block. Strength isnt an issue, get the lighter weight.

I would probably just go with whatever you can find the best deal on. Honestly i just seen a couple of aluminum blocks be split all the way down the middle, and it left me feeling a little uneasy about them. probably wont happen to you though right.

I did not see anywhere about what you were going to do with this stroker. So, I won't make any assumptions as to your power levels. However, if you are going FI or big nitrous, strength might be a determining factor in your choice.

This is the thing right here. Every LS3 I see has a fat price tag. I would not spend an extra $800 to $1000 on an extra 10 horsepower, so I would not spend it on an aluminum block either.

Lq9 has good fi heads.. if thats your goal get an lq9. I see to reason to buy a ls2 w/o heads for the same price. And if your pockets are deep sure you can get 700+ out of either engine but as to which one is more durable, if you have to ask, you might want to get you a mustang sir.

At that horsepower level, saying that aluminum will be less reliable than cast iron is not true. The debate between aluminum and iron is really only a weight issue until you are making 1000+ hp.
If you are willing to spend a little more money, the LS2 is the way to go IMO. 60-80 lbs at the front of the car is a big deal.

If your on a budget or plan on pushing really big numbers then go with the LQ9. Me personally, I would go with the LS2 and save the weight. U can get a set of 317's(LQ9 heads) pretty cheap if thats the route u decide to take with your build.
