why does everyone call all LS motors LSX ?
It makes no sense that everyone calls their motors or cars or whatever LS a LSX because they are not. Is it not correct to say that only a motor built with the factory GM LSX block or GM crate motor LSX 454 a true LSX. I just dont even understand that when they have a race they call it all out LSX racers when a lot of them are just run of the mill LS blocks/motors
Any thoughts as to why?

Because they don't know if its an ls1-2-3-7-9-A. Could be a truck motor. General consensus is not that its an lax block but an ls?. Meaning gen 3 or 4 small block.

No... There is a difference.. LSX and LSx.
One is a block, one is a platform. You just can't catch it verbally... Pay attention to the context.
LSX-Block
LSx-Ls1/2/3/4/6/7/9/etc... It the platform/family of motors. Some include the Lq series motors in this family as well... Which makes perfect sense since everything is interchangeable, more so with an ls1-lq9 than with an ls1-ls3. It is much easier saying LSx than saying I have an Lq9 out of truck that I swapped an Ls3 top end on and put in my ls1 car....

Like stated above.
Most people at least that ive seen use LSx to describe a group. "LSx Club" Meaning V8 Chevy... not that they all have LSX blocks. Its earier then saying the ls1, ls2, ls3, ls7, ls9, lq4, lq9, silverado, trailblazer, corvette, gto, SSR, G8GT, Denali, camaro, firebird club.
Now if someone said, my stock fbody/corvette/gto has a LSX block that would just be dumb. But i havent heard anyone do that.

Agree with the x standing for a variable for the whole LS family.
I've also Seen people use the x for a "hybrid" or mix or parts, ls1 block with an ls6 intake and ls6 heads = Lsx. Because its a mix of Ls parts and not true ls1 or ls6.

one motor i built recently
LQ4 6.0 block
5.7LS1 crank
LS2 connecting rods
+.040 LQ9 replacement pistons
Z06 LS6 / Heads
LS7 lifters
LS9 headgaskets
LS3 fuel rail.
These above parts are GM issue, except for the pistons. These are LQ9 replacement because they are for use with 1.5/1.5/3.0mm rings.
If this doesnt qualify as a LSx. (x as in variable)
Then i cant think of anything that does.

I find it easier to find out whats in it by just asking what displacement, because I don't want to hear, ls1 block, ls2 chain, ls6 heads, ls7 lifters. or I have as lsx, every lsx looks the same when its in the car and all accessories bolted on.
