1-3/4" to 1-7/8"x2" stepped swap ??
Opinions on whether it would be worth the effort and $$ to swap from my 1-3/4" to a set of 1-7/8"x2" stepped header on an NA only set up.
Or spend the $$$ elsewhere. My thought was to get as much out of my current set up before going to Trick Flows.

That a good question. Its a big debate on 1 7/8 vs 1 3/4 headers. I honestly think its worth the swap, but then again I dont know what gains you might even gain on the swap that at the end you wont be satisfied. Honestly for now try to spend the money elsewhere while you gather better info. Try posting this question on the appropiate External Engine section. Im sure you will get a lot of good info. Some will agree on the swap and some will not, soo get ready to be like "wtf do I do?!?!" LOL

With your 418, and cam I think that your car would see gains with 1-7/8" over the 1-3/4". Look around at some of the threads, it seem as though 1-7/8" outperform 1-3/4" everywhere, even on stock smaller displacement engines. I personally run 1-3/4" to 1-7/8" stepped headers with 3.5" collectors on my stock LS1 with good results. I haven't read a lot about the 1-7/8" to 2" so I have no idea if that would be a good move, but even standard 1-7/8" primaries should get you some more power.

From what I have learned reading threads with the guys from ARH posting in them regarding stepped headers is this. Stepped headers aren't worth much if anything if you have your exhaust all the way out the back, they are best with open headers. Also, they are worthless in FI setups.
Definitely go 1 7/8" or even look into going 2" with what you have, I know the LS3's gain from 1 7/8" - 2" on a stock engine. Here is my dyno sheet before and after going from Kooks 1 3/4" to kooks 1 7/8". Same dyno after a touch up tune on my H/C setup.
20 rwhp gain
15 rwtq gain

Here is a thread with the difference between Kooks 1-7/8 vs 1-3/4 to 1-7/8 stepped headers back to back on a 5th gen: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=157314

Good read between ARH and Maryland speed....I was actually going to go with a stepped header until I read this back and forth debate. What really swayed me is the fact ARH sells stepped headers too.
