Default Too Loud!

I must be getting old...
I have a 67 Cutlass, LY6, Mast cam, Hooker, 3" Pypes without X-pipe, MagnaFlow Mufflers. Love the sound at idle, but looking for recommendations as to a good performance muffler replacement.
Thanks!

Im running Pypes Race Pro mufflers, Headers and no cats with Xpipe... Its a nice tone at idle and cruising with NO drone in the car, and at WOT it really screams. Honestly I am completely happy with these mufflers and have been through many sets hating drone, noise and rasp.

I have a few clips I can post if needed.

Hmmm... Magnaflows have always seemed on the quiet side to me, I'm surprised to hear that it would be too loud for anyone.

If you just want to take the edge off a bit, and not lose any performance at all, you could add a Dynomax race bullet to each side. They are straight through so no loss of flow at all, but will absorb some sound, and they are narrow enough to fit into tight areas if need be.

What is it about the Magnaflows that you don't like exactly?

They just remind me of glass packs at any increase in throttle... they are extremely raspy, idle sounds fine, WOT is not really an issue, they should be loud there, but any increase in throttle is beyond annoying. Just in-town driving/cruising is driving me crazy.

If you are referring to the 2000-2500 rpm area, I don't think you will get rid of it without adding cats. I have LT, ORY, Flowmaster merge, and Hooker Aerochamber. Quiet everywhere accept for that particular range where they seem to spend all their time around town/cruising....annoying. I think its just the nature of an LS with no cats.

magnaflows are pretty quiet by nature i had my LT's system catless hooked up and my magnaflow muffler had a nice rumble to it, not to loud and not to quiet. I had no rasp with this setup unless i would open cutout. Now i have a borla xr1 dump, LT's, ORY. No rasp at all and its bitchin loud.

if it's the rasp that you don't like... Why not add in some resonators? They'll give the exhaust a more refined tone and eliminate a LOT of the drone.
