could get some velcro. stick one side to the tach, the other to the dash. or 3m double sided tape. it can be removed and installed alot easier with velcro tho. just clean both areas with rubbing alcohol to remove any oils so it will stick and not come flying off the first time you nail it.

I have seen first hand what double sided tape can do to a dash!

Yeah do a raptor light in the vent etc. If your set on a 5" mount it on the plastic bezel that is around the gauges. Those can be pulled off and replaced. Have it leaning off to the side.

Just an option from drilling holes into the dash. Didn't say it might not leave marks when removed lol.

In my opinion those big ugly 5 inch tachs only belong in NASCAR stock cars, and I don't like NASCAR. Ricers put them in their civics, they stick out like a sore thumb, they junk up the dash, and there really is no use for them. Just get a shift light and put it in your vent, on the column, or I have seen them in the kick panel by the upper leg area. Just as long as it's in your peripheral sight then it will work.

There are plenty of options that will work well, however I went with the standard AutoMeter shift light (which they will convert to 5V for free) and mounted it on the top left hand corner of the door/window panel right above my 3-gauge pod.
