Default First time at the drag strip.

Welp, finally went to the drag strip in my SS 6 speed and was hoping to run 13's, maybe a 12.99. But the best I could do was a 14.2 at 103 with a 2.4 60ft. I kept spinning off the line and couldn't get it to hook up. Tried launching around 1700 but that just bogged me down. Plus it was 90 degrees and 60-70% humidity. And I got beat by a honda civic that ran 13.84. I'd say I need some mo sticky tires. What's a good brand? Mickey Thompson's? Some sticky street tires or some slicks?

are you stock? nittos are something to consider.

If you do a little track, lots of street and don't drive much in the rain I would recommend the nt05R

Yes, all that is done to the car is a k&n air intake and cat cutouts. I've been looking at nittos. The m/t's are expensive and don't last as long. Or so I've heard.

Well, the car gets daily driven or at least 3-4 times a week and sometimes I do get caught in the rain. I was thinking about just getting another set of rims to fit some sticky tires to and only use them when I go to the track. Planning on going back in the fall when things are cooler and I get some exhaust leaks fixed and my o2 sensors replaced. May get some long tube headers while I'm at it.

Nittos suck for the track unless you really heat the **** outta them...Grab some MT Dr's.

nittos will be fine. just get some practice in.


you dont need MTs with your current setup. plus you can DD nittos and be safe until tread gets low in wet conditions.

Yeah, I wanna be able to throw the tires on and drive to the track since we're only 45 minutes away and don't have a trailer big enough to haul the car. Ill get it figured out. It was just so embarrssing getting spanked by a honda civic

^^^ This. At your power level grab a set of NT555R. They should work well with a nice burn out.

M/T DR's on extra rims. they'll fit in the back of your car. doesn't matter what sticky tires you get as your stock 10 bolt with a 6 speed won't last every long.

Imo, just stick with 275/40/17. Bigger/wider ='s heavier. At your power level a wider tire isn't necessary. Hell, I dont even need a wider tire with my current set up. And they are cheaper

The nt05r is light years ahead of the 555r as far as traction goes but with the nt05r driving on the highway in the rain is not a option in my opinion

Alrighty! Thanks for the help man! Any wheel suggestions? Im looking at some 17x11 corvette zr1 wheels from summit for 160 bucks.

I wouldn't drive it in the rain with the nitto's on. They would be a "track only" tire for me. Im just having a hard time deciding on which one's to get haha

A 275/40/17 will not fit on a 17x11, you would need a 17x9-17x9.5 in. rim

Are you doing a rim/radial setup for track use only and drive to and from the track? If that's the case go with Mt et streets

Are you doing a rim/radial setup for track use only and drive to and from the track? If that's the case go with Mt et streets
Yes. I'm planning on getting a set of nitto's or mt's and another set of wheels so I can just bolt them on the car before I leave or load the tires in the car or my brothers truck and drive it to the track on my street tires (crappy coopers) and then bolt the other wheels/tires on.

You have enough mph for mid to high 13's if you get that 60 down a bit.

I know. I was very disappointed that I wasn't in the 13's. Once I hit third gear I would start catching up to everyone but it was too late. I'll get em next time
