Default B4C police cars

I am a life-long camaro owner and member over at z28,com and "lurker" here.

I have been buying and selling about 4-6 used cars a month as a side businness. Recently I have been offered three 2002 hwy partol camaros all with mid-80k on the clock.

What do you think they are worth??

All three have good bodies and good interiors.

If they're wholesaling them to you, I'd say 6-8K a piece. Retail will be close to 10-11K

I don't think they'd be much heavier considering all the police equipment should be removed at this point. That's really the only reason they are heavier. I believe they may have a tougher suspension too but don't quote me on that.

The suspenison is supposed to be tougher, but it's not tighter than the SS. I had a '98 SS, then the B4C, and then another SS. The B4C is a lot tighter than your average car, though. (Sorry, I guess I just quoted you on that...lol!)

Ya gotta be careful where you buy your B4C from, though. Most of them will have holes in the roof or on one of the rear quarters for antenna mounts. (Mine doesn't, I got lucky on that) You might also get some interior damage from equipment, but I got lucky on that, too. Just a worn spot on the driver's seat and two small holes in the console under the shifter. Mine was supposedly driven by an instructor at the OK State Police Academy, so it didn't see much hard driving.

Mine is, btw, for sale. Check out the link to the post in my sig, and it's on eBay, too. I can work with the price a little.

I believe the B4C uses the same suspension as the SS and 1LE cars, if I' m not mistaken. Stock for stock without all the police equipment, the cars shouldn' t weigh any more than a 1LE car.

"pay close attention. This is how you execute a full-throttle, high-speed powerslide when in persuit of a fleeing motorist."

"Sometimes you cannot fully stop in time. In this case when doing under 25mph, you can throw it in reverse and FLOOR it. Observe." (They do that a lot where I live with the crown vics my dad used to buy at the auction to use as pilot cars for his oversize load escort service (closed due to him changing business ventures). We replaced a LOT! of transmissions.)

no wheel hop? Id think if you did that your tires wouldn't spend as much time in contact with the pavement.

All i know is that my dad/grandpa claim they did this and to have personally seen them do it (very probable since when escorting oversize loads a lot of speeding up to catch bridges (and intersections if you are a cop and blocking it) was involved. I never argued. No reason for them to make something like that up.

I belive in some movies I have seen it as well. Hollywood uses police consultation on some stuff to make it more "realistic" and in some cases cops "do like they saw on TV"
(in Europe some agencies taught their officers to shoot "gangsta" style (sideways) b/c Hollywood. I remember reading this in guns/ammo one time in a story about Ayoob (or some other high-caliber instructor) re-training some agencies across the pond).

Whatever the case, we replaced auto trannies A LOT! in those old cop cars. The good tranny's were usually from on base (barksdale AFB) and never involved in that type of use.

EDIT: My dad one threw one in reverse and nailed it (from a stop) and I saw no wheel-hop either in the rubber left or visibly (was watching him do it). I never had wheel-hop in my modded PI vic either (came to ME with a 3.27 posi, aluminum DS, police ECU (basically no limiter, forget the "300hp b/c its got a chip" BS you hear). We put a 5.4L under the hood. Car did okay. (some people say no way, I ssay it had "5.4" on the block and so thats what I belive the motor to be. had long intake runners on it. We put a 4.6 intake on it to get it under the hood. Could it have just been a 4.6L out of a truck? I guess, but why the 5.4 on the block? Who cares. It wasnt much, if any faster than the 4.6's I had and the car was less responsive (slower revving) imho than my dad's 4.6 'vic. It stands to reason it was a 5.4, but I have no "proof" other than we needed to change flex-plates, ect. to bolt it up).

I think you're right...I do remember seeing that the B4C has 1LE suspension.

Not true. I had Tatical Driving at the academy and at NO time did we ever throw the units in reverse while moving. That's rediculous.

I am sure not ALL academy's do the same thing. Also, what an officer does in training/is TOLD to do is not always what they do. I have PERSONALLY seen a cop come to a screeching halt and throw that thing in reverse. It is NOT un-reasonable that a rookie gets pumped and throws her in reverse before he gets totally stopped. At any rate, they beat the ****! out of those things. We had to do so many transmissions that we personally knew the shop owner and got a special rate. Had several tranny's sitting in our warehouse at all times, ready to go, lol. All the vic's I ever drove had issues shifting at WOT as well. (former police cars).
