LS1 - GTO or SS?
I know some about these cars, but would like to know a little more before buying one as a daily driver. Which would make a better daily driver - an 04 GTO or an ls1 SS? I'm talking as an all around vehicle. Also, I would be getting an M6 in either one. Quality, comfort, power/speed, price, and even gas mileage(I'm not expecting great mpg but still), everything. What are the pros and cons of both? any input is appreciated!

they are both badass cars. the SS would be a good deal faster agenst a ls1 gto its is also faster then the stock LS2 gto. i get about 23-24 mpg on mine with very conservitive driving and about 18-20 when i am drivin it hard. the camaro will also handle alot better then the gto. the gto has a major advantage over the camaro in room especially in the rear seat area. i would go with the camaro its cheaper, faster, and handles better but just my .02. ether way welcome to the club!!

I have also been looking into the GTO. There is just something about it that I like. The 06 is a monster, though I think it weighs quite a bit, not sure. Check the link.

The SS is lighter thats for sure it has a solid rear axle and the GTO has an IRS set up. Not sure which one handles better the GTO might do better thru the corners but who knows. As far as ride comfort i think the GTO would be a little bit better than the SS (according to the magazines) but its all personal preference. Just go test drive both of them and see which one you like better, just my .02 and of course welcome to the wonderful world of LS1's

i have driven both an LS1 and and LS2 gto. I have kind of ruled out the LS2 for the time being because of the price of them. I loved the interior of them...the seats are AWESOME. However, they felt somewhat heavy to me(both were stock), and the stock shifter felt kind of sloppy. I haven't driven an LS1 SS in probably 3 years...so I need to drive one of those first. Thanks for the input guys. what about gas mileage? any difference?

I would look at Ls2 Goats again.
End of model year for the car = dealerships give them away. And since it wasn't hot seller, there are cars that are $33-34K that people are getting for $27-28K around here. You could probably get one cheaper out the door with some noodling/bartering.
The GTO is a bit more luxurious, which is nicer for a DD, but they both have huge nuts power. As for gas mileage, they are about the same, and are great for highway driving/trips....steady and smooth.

I've owned both. Had a '04 GTO with the LS1 and now am on my third Camaro, 2 Z28's and 1 SS. It will really depend on your preferences. Knowing that your looking for a DD, my opinion would be the GTO if you can find one at a reasonable price as their values fall pretty quickly from what I've seen.
My opinion....the GTO has the better interior, hands down. They seem to be very well put together, and are notorious for having a pretty quiet interior. They are however much heavier than an SS.
I personally lean towards the SS, because mine isn't a DD. That and you can't have a GTO with T-tops. Also keep in mind that if you're going to be modding the car at all, GTO parts aren't as easy to find and generally cost more.
Just my .02

Between the two, for a daily driver I'd definately choose the GTO.
They are really comfortable and luxurious compared to an SS Camaro.
I wouldn't want to drive the SS daily - no thanks.

I daily drive my SS and i have i have no regrets. My car is modded but a stock or close to it SS is a good DD.
But if you are looking for a DD the GTO is smoother and has a better interior.

The GTO will make a better daily driver.
But if you are looking for an LSx car for just fun/pleasure driving or racing, I'd stick with the F-body.
