How much weight have you hauled? In your F Body.
I took my pass seat out and hauled a disassembled big block in the car on a 1300 mile trip once, the pass side rear bumpstop was touching. I took everything out of the car and weighed it on a certified scale and it was 710 pounds including me. The door says 701 max cargo.
NOW...I'm taking the same trip with a complete LS1 where the pass seat goes, a little more toward the rear. And I mean complete, even engine pedestals, all accessories, Y back exhaust, radiator, SS spoiler, fans, driveshaft, maybe more.
It's on the bump stops. And I'm taking that 1300 mile trip again.
I took a few interior panels off to avoid damage.
How much weight do you think I'm carrying? how much have you carried?
PS this really sucks, I have a one ton truck where I'm going, and this car used to sit in the garage all the time.

And who says the cars aren't practicle? You should be fine. Just drive slow. I have had 3 200# guys, and 3 100-115# chicks in the car before, and it was fine aside from the lack of elbow room.
Not as much as you have in there. Good luck on the trip.

if a commercial truck is overloaded and causes an accident, the operator goes to jail.
if a private vehicle is, well oh well! i think personally, that law is BS. all vehicle operators need to be aware of these things... sure.. a camaro does a pretty impressive 60-0 decel... but how about with 800 lbs in it!
who else has seen an explorer towing a 2 horse trailer, or a 2wd S10 with a giant boat.
it's not safe for the operator, it's not safe for the other cars on the road, and it's horrible for the vehicle... specifically one that's a unibody.

I can't rent a truck and trailer, can't afford it. Plus that expense would turn what I think (or thought) the good deal(s) I got on all this stuff into not a good deal.
The mistake I made was finding all these parts AFTER I had the car they are for shipped to where I'm going. I wanted to put the parts in the '01 in my sig and have that transported, but the trucking company got here way ahead of schedule and moved a basically empty car.
And I thought of shipping the engine too, but I have nothing here. I've shipped stuff before, I'd need to rent a hoist to get it out, put it on a pallet, strap it down and wrap it then somehow transport it to a freight company because it wouldn't fit in the car on a pallet. That might be half the cost of a truck and trailer rental.
Like I said though 710 pounds wasn't bad at all, just have to drive for the conditions.
I'm just not quite sure how much I have in it now. Any guesses?

You wanna here somthing crazy. Last fall when everyone was taking there boats out of the water I saw a red ws6 with an old man driving it and behind him he was pulling at least a 20ft. boat with a class 4 hitch! I was in my car and he saw me and smiled as he made a right turn in the opposite lane and I just shook my head at him. People like that are just real stupid in my book. Take it from me, overloading ANY VEHICLE is dangerous. So dangerous in fact that some countys and cities were I live charge up to 10.00$ a pound on an overloaded truck. So these guys that do go a few thousand lbs over the legal limit are just retarded. Especially since its the driver that has to pay the ticket not the company he works for. Thats why when I used to drive trucks I was always about 500lbs under because the scales are not all the same and can be off from a couple hundred to a thousand lbs if its an older scale that hasnt had maintnance in a little while.

Crazy? my ex girlfriends grandfather here told me they moved one time and put a toyota car INSIDE the moving van, AND towed another car.
As for my car I did balance everything out the best I could, even consulted the owners manual--no more than 100lbs in the back area and load the car evenly. I put as much of the heavy stuff on the drivers side since the engine is on the pass side.
The car does have SFC's welded in.

If the car has to be where you are taking the LS1 and parts, then you really have no other alternative do you? I would load everything very carefully and drive at the speed limit and hope for the best...no autocrossing!
On my way home from work yesterday I say a guy with a Ford Focus towing a 12-15 foot open utility trailer with the car yesterday! I couldn't get around him fast enough!

You should be fine. I hauled a ls1 shortblock, a set of heads in a box, tubular k member, a arms, and an exhaust in my 95. All I did was take the passenger seat out. I only drove about 45 miles, but I didn't have any problems at all. Not to mention I loaded that thing in there by myself and I'm 5'8, 155lbs

I use to tow my ski with the ls1. maybe 500 pounds. I would forget it was back there sometimes. Everyone would watch me load up or unload. I would spin on the ramp a little but that was mostly from me not the ramp.
In my lt1 I had 7 people in it one time and I was the d/d. Must have been close to 1000 pounds.
