Default dirty K&N or clean paper filter

Im going to the dyno tomoro, and i have a K&N, but it is very dirty. Should i shove it in there, or leave the spotless paper filter in?

Buy the Cleaner for the K&N. It's only like 10 bucks man from Advanced Auto. If you dont, put the paper filter in. I dont think you'll really get much of a difference between the 2.

This K&N is beyond the 'normal' cleaning methods. I soaked it in the tub in dawn for about 30 mins, and still get black **** on my hands when i touch it. I think the guy who had the car before me bought the filter when he bought the car (new) and never cleaned it. If you go outside and pick up two handfulls of dirt, thats what fell off the filter in the tub, and its still dirty. I will have to buy a new one, i just didnt know if it would be better like it is.

Buy a paper one and never use that damn K&N again. You got sucked into their marketing. They might net 2 rwhp, but that's only because they filter less. Then, when they're dirty, you're faced with a shitty clogged filter. They never really get clean again and that oil can seriously screw up your MAF. K&N are a lose-lose-lose situation. There are no benefits, only disadvantages.

I completely agree. There used to be an article floating around the internet by either bob the oil guy or someone else about how crappy K&N filters actually are. There was also a comparison of different air filters and the AC delco paper filter came out on top with the best filtration and marginally less flow than a cotton gauze type filter. I have heard good things about Amsoil's oiled foam filters though.

I wouldn't use a K&N for daily use.....I only use it at the track, and thats all. The best filtering filter from the data i've seen here and there is the stock AC Delco, it actually flowed as good if not better than a K&N.

most of those problems arise because people soak the damn things in oil. you just oil the peaks on the bottom, set it in the tray and let the airflow wick the oil into the rest of the media. plus a $2 can of MAF cleaner does wonders . i clean mine every couple of weeks and there isnt any oil on the housing or on the the rest of the intake tract.

as an aside, my car had a k&n when i bought it, so it's free to me!!

Put it in the dishwasher (not with dishes). It WILL come out clean. Oh yeah don't put too much oil.

I have used K&N's in all my F-bodies and other vehicles for the past 10+ years and have never ever had any problems whatsoever related to the MAF.

Soooo...

Sorry, OP. The second I saw the title, I knew this was going to turn into the usual debate.

I like my K&N. I guess some people thing you empty the entire can of oil on the filter or something I've had mine on for almost 3 years now and everything's fine.

I've got a K&N in the T/A, the S-10, and the Dodge 1500. All still run great.

K&N learn how to use the oil!
and i let it air dry for a day just so i can absorb evenly then i put it on paper towels for like 30 min to take out some excess's oil.

but i did notice that k&N has some big gaps..i mean of course its gonna work it lets alot more air though and unfiltered a lil....

I would run the car with no filter.........
