Default Keep Modding the Z28 or save for C6 Z06?

Dont get me wrong, i am deeply in love with my 98 Z28 and love to spend money on it! But im wondering wether or not to keep dumping money into this car or should i stop modding, sell the car and finance an 06 Z06? WTF do i do? I cant just stop modding?

I don't see how the costs are comparble? I mean, do you really plan to spend 60 grand (cost of a slightly used z06) on your camaro? Even the down payment on that thing will be significant. I mean, what are your plans? You could get a 9", longblock, SC for the cost of the Down Payment on the vette. Then you have to factor in the additional car payment plus insurence. Not saying you can't afford it, I just don't see how the two are even in the same ballpark from a cost standpoint.

Well, the obvious answer is save for the z06. It is a lot more car (handling, breaking, appearance ext.). There are two types of enthusiasts out there. People who can afford a z06, and those (myself included) who mod fbodies. If I could choose, I would be in the former catagory not the latter.

C6Z's are getting cheaper. Some are $48-50K with 20-30K and with good credit and 84 month financing my payment will be $753.00 a month. I wonder if its "worth" it. I am going to start a thread similar to this one since I just sold my SS today. Its either another 03 Cobra or C6Z.

no i agree the costs arent comparable. But is it worth going into debt when my dream car is a 06 z06, something i really want? But at the same time i love camaro's? By next year i could pick up a used z06 for around 50k, sell my car for i donno, not much and then save a bit for a down payment and then pay out my *** for years to pay it off? I dont know if its worth it or not to save and spend or too just be happy with what i have?

I will say this. Owning the Camaro you will ALWAYS aspire to own a C6Z but owning a C6Z, what could you possibly apsire to own other than a ZR1 (not needed if you already own a C6Z) ?

You always want what you can't or don't have.

I'd consider my financial situation before. Make sure you can save plenty off each check so you're not working when your 60 to pay off a car that was cool 30 or 40 years ago to you. It will all be irrelevant then.

Just my advice.

sorry to laugh, but

You are actually considering a 750 car payment? Any idea what insurance will cost on a car that expensive and fast?

I'm curious if you live with your parents or not. Do you have a good job?

That just sounds like a retardedly high car payment.

750 isnt that much for a car payment. depends on how much you make im 23 and can afford a brand new house and have 2 brand new cars that ive aquired since i moved out of my parents house when i was 18 so i dont see why you asked that of the OP. sorry, it just seems your knocking the OP because you think he cant afford it by laughing. when if he couldnt he wouldnt be asking if he should get it? i dunno, mabey he can or cant but thats not what he asked. BTW for a 50K car look to spend 1100-1200 a month with no down.

But back on topic i think that you should ONLY even THINK about buying a C6Z if you make enough money to pay for the whole car payment in only one weekly check. there are more important things, like not going in debt over your head. if you can do that then more power to you. i would keep the current car though in my opinion and put the money toward other things. People who own cars that expensive down worry about money too much though, just please down go over your head for a car. Peace

$750 monthly payment ... ARE YOU KIDDING.... can you say 30k millionare...

Why not go with a C5 Z06 and supercharge it... You will be 10-20k cheaper than the C6 and walk all over it.

break that 84 month loan down over the life of that loan and see what that car really costs you.... Pay Cash or Go Home what I always say (-:

50k loan = pays back $66302 at 8.5%

1/4 of your monthly paycheck is way too much to allocate to a vehicle payment. 10-15% (after-tax) is the most you should spend. Thus, to truly afford a z06 you should make around $6-$7,500/month AFTER TAX. This is around $80k/year after tax or a gross income of around $130-$140. Wow, sound like a lot of money??? THATS BECAUSE IT IS! These cars ain't cheap, and they don't fit in everybody's budget.

Now, 1/4 of your monthly paycheck may be ok, but you would need to make other sacrificies. No credit card debt and a mortgage that was well within your affordability level, low living expenses (food, entertainment, ext.). Otherwise, it just isn't possible to adequately save for retirment, and other expenditures (such as childrens college, ext.).

C6 Z06 hands down.... Its nice to have a built Z28, but the Z06 has a factory warranty with it and it is an all around awesome car. Also, you can sell the Z06 for alot more then you can the z28.... You will never get your money back for the mods you put into the z28.

No need to be sorry. Alot of the guys on Z06 forums pay between $1000-1200 a month since they bought them new. Even with a good jobs for my wife and I at 33 yrs old I still like to make decent decisions. We have no debt and no kids. This is the perfect time to get one. $750 is cheap for what you get might I add. You can easliy blow $187 a week ($750 mo) on CD's, movies and fastfood why not a C6Z?

If I had $50K cash to pay for it, ofcourse. Until then, myself and the 70% of other Americans with good credit will have to just pay lower intrest. No way around it. Since the car will hold its value it will end up fine in the end.

Do you guys realize how much $80K+ cars cost per month?

How about look into a Ferrari lease/purchase payment of $2500+ per month.

Not when the plan is H/C/N20 C6Z.

Besides, thats called "settling" if you did infact want a C6Z. I hate to settle, life is too short.

Yeah, I hear you. That's why I asked what your situation was, if you were living with your parents, one thing, married no kids in your thirties, I agree, that's a pretty good age over any to do it if you can swing it. If it gains value, bonus. I would say make sure you don't have a bunch of high interest debt at all though, like credit card debt.
