Gutting cats, yay or nay? I have a cutout
Ok.. so heres the deal, people have been telling me to gut my cats, they say it would sound ALOT louder with my cutout open and I might gain a few hp. Is there any truth to this? Would you guys recommend gutting the cats with a cutout and does it actually sound louder? Thanks

Seeing how you can actually sell the cats for like $70 each why don't you save up and put headers on it and use the cats toward your header purchase and then it would be really loud.
Don't gut.

I gutted my cats out simply because I wanted to put the car together and not wait on parts. It looks like it would increase flow, it's probably louder.
If I wasn't in a hurry I'd sell the cats to the guy on here that pays $150 for them and put that towards a non catted Y at least.
IMO a non catted Y with stock manifolds is a waste of time, add headers and you're up $400-$500 more.
If you want it to be loud then yea beat the crap out of your cats and bolt them back on.
If you want to be real loud get headers and two cutouts.

The cats are what really quiet the car down. I used to want to do this because I had no money but decided to wait, and now I have headers which always sound better. Plus... now I can sell the cats for a good amount of money.
I always hated getting told this, but I would just wait until you could afford the good stuff.

i have gutted cats through a stock y pipe and flowmaster catback deleted rear o2's. i think it sounds beautiful, i have even got some compliments on it and i have no rasp at all! i had to gut the cats due to a bad 02 sensor that clogged the drivers side cat! i ended up selling the materials i just had left over for $41 if i were u i would sell the cats at what u can and just buy some shells from somebody, or save up for headers. performance gain is minimal, i dident feel much but i think top end has increased
