80,000 miles. What do you think?
First of all I've never owned an LSX car but have wanted to for some time now. I finally found one around here but it has 80,000 miles on it.
I was just wondering if some members here that have a car with over 80k could tell me what they think of theirs. Does it still drive just fine? All the power still there it? I was just a little worried about it and was hoping I could find some relief here.
I don't know if this really makes since or anything, but any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Adam.

This is one of the most common questions in the Newbie forum, but it's your first post so you get a freebie. It normally turns into a big long list of people telling you how many miles are on their car and how it still runs just fine.
You;ll get plenty of answers, but the real answer is you shouldn't hesitate to buy if price is right. These cars are good for 200,000 if maintained. People still race on 100,000+ stock shortblocks.

think of it this way...
newest ls1 is 2002, so its 2008...2008-2002 = 6 years, mileage divided by years
80000/6 = 15000
i would say thats an average amount of miles per year, given tune ups/oil changes
long as everything is in good working order, i wouldnt hesitate to buy one at 88000

Well the great thing about these cars is unlike most imports they don't need maintenance every 15k miles, like spark plugs and what not. They also do not need belts changed at 60k so you don't have to worry about it. The first maintenance is at 100k spark plugs. Not sure when the belts are. So I think anything under 100k for the right price is worth it.

I never did the math. 15,000 miles a year isn't bad at all.
That makes a lot of since. Thanks.
By the way, its an 02 35th Trans Am M6. I love the way it looks. And it's convertible. I've never even been in one of those before! lol
How long would you say the top last? I mean, does it start to leak after using it so many times or years?
Many more thanks.

80k Is not bad mileage to buy a car at, specially a LS car.
They key thing is how it was maintained. I just bought a car (non lsx) with a 100k. It runs and looks like new. It just depends on the previous owner(s).
I also seen cars with less then 50k puff out massive amounts of smoke.

If its taken care of no worries at all... to answer your top quetion depends on the care. mine is 6 years old now and the back window glue is coming undone and the top itself is pretty faded so im looking at replacing. check the convertible section for more info

Thanks for helping with the decision. Much appreciated.

80,000 miles means it is just getting broken in...mine clicked 160,000 this morning on the way to work...I got it when it had 10,300 miles and it uses one half quart of oil every 5,000 miles....it has been run hard its whole life and sees the red line every day...but it has been maintained very well too ... heads/cam and all the bolt ons makes 452 rwhp and has been one of the most reliable cars I have ever owned...it is a mericle of modern engeneering...I'm leaving in the morning for another Hot Rod Power Tour trip......if the car has been maintained properly I would not be afraid of the 80,000 miles on it...look it over real good and if it checks out buy it and enjoy it...

mines got 100,800 i've owned it for like 2-3months and i bought it with 97,000miles on it since ive owned it its gotten about 12 passes on it. i beat the life outta my cars but i keep up with my maintenance and sometimes over maintain my vehicles. and if you look it up average miles a month for daily drivers are 1200-1500 a month so you've just found a car that was never a garage queen. buy it keep up on maintenance and drive it the way it should be driven dont just put around and take it to shows, no offence to anyone but a car is meant to be driven and some cars driven harder than others lol. Goodluck
