Default ported TB problem...kinda

Well I put on my ported throttle body. When I rev it to 1500 or so it does it like normal then when it's going down it will stay at 1100-1200 rpms for 1-2 seconds then go back down to my normal idle. It's not sticking. I think it might be because the Wire that opens the throttle body is not "tight" I can push on it with no effort and it flexes all over the place. Anyone know how to tighten that up or know any other reason why it's holding up the rpms?

I'd say drive it for a couple of days and see if it settles down to normal. You car may have to relearn some things since you had stuff unplugged and now you're stuffing more air into it.

i dont think it is wire. if you tb blade is closed then it is closed. i think it messes with the tb sensor. Mine does the same thing now. but im not sure why either.

Sounds like you over ported the housing a tad, and it's pulling some extra vacuum. I've done this a few times, it's very easy to do if you're not careful.

Are you throwing any codes for high idling?

If it's holding a 11-1300 rpm idle for a second, and it wasn't before. You over ported it.

Well when i first put a ported TB on my car it did the same exact thing. It was caused by the blade being to open and we just turned the screw that opens/closes the blade and problem was solved but it still surged a little bit until I got a tune

I bought it from a guy on here. Now this morning I came home from work and when I was going 70 at 2k rpms I got off at the exit and put it in nutral and it stayed at 2k rpms. It stayed at 2k rpms when I was in the parking lot too. If a tune will fix this I will take it off until then.

when i put my ported throttle bodies on they did this for a few days, then the car relearned the idle and they all went back down.. i say give it a couple days, and if it doesn't go down then pursue alternatives..

Mine never actually relearned itself. I mean it did a little bit but it still would throw idle codes even though the idle was almost right on but occasionaly it would idle upwards of 1400 when I would come to a light

Out of the TBs I have ported, I've never had this happen. Like someone mentioned already, your most likely getting too much air past the blade at idle now.

Who ported it?

If there is actually a problem it is probably due to whoever ported it, porting under/past where the blade sits at idle which is the cardinal sin in porting TB's...

Was the hole in the blade drilled bigger maybe? Just a thought

The hole in the plate is not drilled. I bought it from a guy off here that bought it off of somebody else and couldn't use it cause it was from an 01 and he had a 98-00. It doesn't look like it's "relearning" anything yet. I can put it in 6th gear @ 35mph and it stays there almost like the cruise control is on. I'll leave it on for a few more days. If it doesn't stop i'm gonna take it off. When I get a cam installed this summer along with a tune can it be tuned not to idle high?

If I put the car in gear and drive it the idle goes to where it should. Only when it's in nutral it stays at higher than normal RPMS.

Try rearranging your throttle cable. I had mine off a while back and had the same issue. I did not port the TB but it would not let the idle go down to normal. I opened the hood and wiggled my throttle cable and the RPM's went to normal. I kinda rearranged the cables where it comes from the cruise control and it fixed the problem

Just got home and i'm tired of it idling so high. I looked at my stock tb and my ported one. I was thinking how I could make it not idle so high. I figured I would let that little screw that decides how open/closed the TB blade is. I let it almost all the way down then the pedal started to stick a little bit. Let it back up and it didn't stick as bad. I just got home from work so i'm tired and stopped adjusting it. I'll adjust it tomorrow perfectly. I hope this solves the problem. The idle is normal again but the pedal is sticking a tad!
