Seafoam may work or you might have to pull everything apart cuz, by the way things sound(noise when accel increase) it may be too late for seafoam.

you cant tell by looking at the lifter if it is bad. you cant really see them without pulling the head.

I am having a similar problem. Are you able to see them pretty clearly if you pull the pushrod out?

You replaced the scarred rod but if you didn't replace the lifter it'll still make noise. I thought that a noisy lifter would quiet down after a bit of running, not remain constant.

I know you don't want to hear this. But, you are most likely fucked and will have to take the motor appart.

How many miles does the car have?

A sticking lifter will "unstick" itself from time to time, the ticking won't sound constant and sometimes lessens with rpm or goes away altogether.

What it sounds like though is the lifter collapsed or something happened to the pushrod to scar it ie over rev. With the rockers off, you may be able to feel movement in the pushrod like basically you can push it into the lifter cup and it will give a significant amount over the other lifters. At this point, you are pulling the head to change the lifter.

I tend to agree with the other posts, you are gonna have to pull that bitch a part and check the lifter. 9 times outta 10 u collapsed a lifter. And you might as well check the other side while you are at it...

You need to tear it down before you drop a lifter. Ask me how I know. Mine was ticking then it went away ,after a hard pass it came back for good. The needles feel out of the roller then it just tore up the lifter the cam oil pump etc.

if its a 3800 you need to state that, because everyone will assume its an ls1 for some reason.

hmm, i wonder why?

anyways, does the ticking go away after the car has warmed up?

if it does, thats good news, and some seafoam should fix it.. if not, then you will have to replace the lifters.

a month or so ago i got a really nasty ticking, it was very loud, and everyone was telling me the lifters were bad etc. it quit all of a sudden, and hasnt come back since, so i take it that something got stuck in the oil passages and it finally worked its way out and let the lifter pump up
