tensioner pully question, PLEASE HELP!!!
hey guys,
i have a really loud sqeaking at idle on cold and/or humid days. it sounds like i have thousands of crickets in the engine bay.
the sound goes away after driving it for awhile.
i have been hearing these fixes
1. Change Tensioner Assembley
2. Change Tensioner Pully ONLY NOT ASSEMBLY
3. Change Idler Pully
what is the correct thing to do guys?!?!?!?
thanks
Kevin
ps i searched and go nothing and i am planning on new serpentine belt along with any pully changing. i am just about at 50k miles.

If its still squeaking...you narrowed it down to the serpentine belt wheels. Upper Idler pulley, power steering pump wheel, the fixed pulley near the power steering reservoir, water pump bell housing or the alternator wheel.
You can check all those seperatley by removing the serpentine belt and spinning them with your hand. BUT....sometimes they only squeak when the serpentine belt is on nice and tight so there's tension beiong pulled on all the bearings in each pulley/wheel.
You have to weed things out.

I've had success taking the pulleys off. Carefully pry off the bearing seals, regreasing the bearings, and reinstall seals. YMMV depending on the condition of the bearings.

I had the same problem last year when the car was cold the belt would squeal like mad until the car had been running for a while.
I ended up replacing the belt, still squealed.
Then for 45$ at autozone I got a new tensioner with pulley. That fixed the problem instantly.

Does anyone know what to torque the tensioner pulley down to? I recently replaced my idler and tensioner pulley. I torqued both of them down to 37 ft lbs. Just want to make sure I did it right.

The A/C tensioner pulley (fixed pulley) is 18 lbs.
But the upper tensioner pulley (fixed pulley) is 37 lbs.

If you're lucky it'll be the air conditioner tensioner pulley. It came off with 1 turn of the wrench, no problems. Standard 15mm took it right off.
My squeaky pulley is the non-movable pulley above the tensioner(circled in red). And the torx head stripped out on it. Now I've got to figure out how to get it off.
