gross dexcool pic
just something too gross not to share.
look at what i just squeezed out of my coolant overflow tube...
the stuff is so sticky that air wouldnt blow it out, it just made
a loud liquid farting sound that i'm sure my neighbors appreciated.
i dunno if somebody at one time might have poured green stuff in it
or if its just what happens to old dexcool thats stagnant for awhile.
the rest of the system that i've seen (inside radiator and hoses, cap,
thermostat) is clean as a whistle other than the couple pints of power
steering fluid i'm flushing out due to a worthless power steering cooler.
nasty eh?

I think I've read, that Dex "turns" if left exposed to
air. So what's in the coolant tube may not be that
representative of what's in the block.
It sure would make me want to know for sure, though.

lol, this stuff does look like the stuff from that blob movie...
what you see in that pic is all i've managed to find so-far.
thats what i'm thinking. 10 or so years of wet/dry dexcool cycles in the overflow tube and over time it has just accumulated and built-up. i'm pretty damn dedicated to taking care of this car, and i flushed the original coolant at around 45k miles, it looked pretty good. and the fresh dexcool only had about 20k or so on it before last week when i first drove the thing this season and the power steering fluid got low for no reason. luckily i quickly put one and one together before the coolant found its way into the power steering...
all the exterior stuff i've opened up and looked inside (thermostat, petcock, looking inside radiator thru the filler neck) doesnt have any of this sticky goo, so i think its all good. i did also replace a cracked overflow tank when i flushed the original coolant, so there is a chance that something could have entered the cooling system and contaminated it.
