Default Volt Regulator Question

I know that the voltage regulator is located within the alternator, but can I order the voltage regulator from a local dealer and replace? Or, am I stuck having to buy I new alternator (don't really want to spend that dough!!).

Thanks.

You should be able to, although you may not get one at AZ or O'Reilly.
