From an article I found...
"More antifreeze is not always better. Antifreeze's key ingredient is glycol, and it works best at a 50 to 70 percent mixture with water. For example, coolant made up of half antifreeze and half water will have a freeze point of -34 degrees F. Pure antifreeze freezes at about 12 degrees F.
We recommend going only as high as 70 percent Zerex and 30 percent water to drive the freeze point down," says Dave Turcotte, technical director of Valvoline's Zerex coolant brand. "Once you exceed 70 percent coolant, the freeze point actually starts going back up.
Turcotte recommends keeping a gallon or two of coolant, premixed with deionized water, in each machine. When it is used to top off radiators, the proper concentration is preserved."

If you do live in a climate that see's freezing temps.....50/50 is good, but even a little bit less then 50/50 is ok. 40% Dexcool, 60% water. It won't freeze.
DO NOT use 100% Dexcool or any other kind of anti-freeze.

plain water cools better then antifreeze, but does not have any of the freeze protection, lubricants or other beneficial additives. By "plain water", I mean distilled water that has harmful minerals removed to reduce build ups.
All antifreeze is not only NOT better, it is actually much worse.
