Popped on while driving.. wont go away. car starts and drives fine. Tried cleaning inside the ignition a little and tried using the spare key which fits much more snug... still the light remains on...

I got this after a long road trip. I pulled over and played around arming, disarming, and starting the car a few times. Light went off.

Your car is on its way to not being able to read or accept the key anymore, which will leave you stranded one day. You might have to replace the lock/cylinder assembly, which could run you a cool $300 or more, or you can do the bypass. OR, you can do what I'm doing now and just drive around with the light on, waiting for the day the car won't start so I can set it on fire...

No, it's not. It's in fault enable mode. The car sensed a fault in the VATS circuit after the car was already started, so it thinks there is a problem with the system, rather than someone trying to steal it. The light will stay on forever until you fix it, and VATS will be disabled.

I had the exact same thing happen to my Camaro. I replaced the ignition cylinder, had a new key cut, and problem solved. You could also just bypass it, but I wanted to keep VATS.

My Security light comes on sometimes while driving, yet goes off during the same drive, not coming back on all the way through destination arrival/shutdown.

OH, and the alarm system works fine.

Mine is still on. Since it didn't go away with trying the beans new spare key I'm guessing it's the lock in the ignition. Sucks hmm

I dunno man, the exact thing happened to me before. Light stayed on, I ignored it..eventually the car wouldn't start. I had to have it towed in and ended up having to replace the cylinder...
