Default Water pump or thermostat

My car just started saying low coolant even though the level is fine. On my way home from work it started to overheat and pegged 260. Coolant came from the overflow so when it finally cooled down i took the radiator cap and overflow cap off, the radiator is completely full and I added some to the the overflow. I turned the car on with both caps off and the water doesnt move at all even.

I turned the heater on when it started to overheat and it went back to 210, any suggestions? Sorry if this isn't as proper as it should be, I just got home from work and its too dark to take a look at anything else so I'm trying to gather ideas for tomorrow

Interesting...Mine started doing the same thing but my PS fluid was low. I found out my PS cooler was done and I got coolant on the PS and PS fluid on the Coolant. I fix that and I am still working on figuring out why it still overheating. Good luck, maybe someone here can help us both.

My car did the same thing and I replaced the t-stat. 3 months later the water pump started leaking. Start with the t-stat should set you back like $20

It's got to be thermostat. If it's not moving even after heating up in the engine, then the thermostat isn't opening. Your water pump must be fine if for one it's not leaking and two by you turning on the heat the temp came down. So it's circulating it past the heater core. Good luck. If you're already doing the thermostat swap I suggest doing a flush and fill at same time.

Depending on how many miles I would change both. Thermostats are cheap and easy to do though. Make sure you get all the air out of the coolant and stuff or it will overheat that way as well.
