Default What is this sound?

I knew that it would be impossible to describe this sound so I recorded a video with my iphone 4:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FcBXvR-Zgc

It's an 02 Z28 83,000 miles on it.. The sound only occurs when I sit idling for a few minutes.
Once I turn the car off and back on it goes away after a few seconds.

I changed the oil about 4k miles ago with royal purple.

Im going with bent PR or a collapsed lifter. Best remove the pushrods first and see if theyre bent if not then start tearing into the lifters...

If that was the case why would that sound only occur after idling for a while.
Usually while I'm sitting parked with the car on for several minutes.

And I have no idea how to go about removing the push rods.

Could be a long shot....but check your plugs. From the video it kind of sounds like an arcing plug somewhere. I highly doubt it but it's a small thing to look into.

I haven't had a tune up in over 20k miles so I was planning on replacing all the spark plugs anyways.
I was also planning on seafoaming the car.

That's just what it sounds like. It could be a lifter too. I had a lifter go bad on me and it would only start ticking after the car warmed up a bit. If you want to check the pushrods, take the valve covers and rockers off and pull them out. Roll them on a flat surface to see if they are bent. It's easy. Rule that out, and go from there.

I don't need to drop the engine out do I?
Is there a guide anywhere for getting to the PRs and lifters?

No, you don't have to drop the engine to get to the PRs. If it's a lifter, you will need to pull the heads.

I'm going to try some general maintenance stuff first and see if it doesn't help.
I'm trying to find some of that foaming spray that goes into the PCV opening at the TB for cleaning the engine. Is there any that you guys would recommend?

..

As mentioned above, check your pushrods and if they're good check/replace your lifters.

I'm not going to put seafoam directly into the engine. I was talking about the Mopar combustion chamber cleaner.
But I can't find any of that so I'm looking for an alternative.

I know I need to check my push rods, but I don't know where to start.
On top of that I don't have a lot of free time I have classes and I work every day.

well it shouldn't take too much of your time and the combustion chamber cleaner isn't going to fix it. If you lived nearby I would help ya.

You'll just need to take off the coil packs, valve covers, and rockers. All you'll need is a basic socket tool set. However, I would invest in a torque wrench for bolting the rockers back down to 22ft/lbs.

It would be nice to have a range of the sound, like what it does when you rev it a little.

It could be an exhaust leak. An exhaust leak will get louder and faster with throttle. A valvetrain problem will get faster but stay just as loud.

I live in the Tampa Bay area in Florida, if there's anybody that lives around here I'd definitely be willing to pay them to help me out.

But if I give it throttle when it's making that sound the sound will get faster and slightly louder.
I'll make another video next time it does it but the problem it it does it randomly only when I sit idling for a while.

One other noise I'm hearing that may be related is a rattling noise whenever I'm driving and I give the car gas usually reving up +2k RPMs.
It's a faint rattling noise that I can't identify.

the rattle is probably your exhaust hitting a heat shield or something.

Here is a new video with me revving it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onJmKLKu61I

Went away once I started driving and sounded fine.
Check gauges is on cause I was low on gas.
