Default I need a new starter. Ebay starters any good?

Ok my 98 camaro starter is going out. Starts right up sometimes and takes 3 or 4 tries sometimes too. Ive searched around and can get a rebuilt one for around 140 or so. But on ebay i see some starters for around 65 dollars. Are these starters even worth trying? Anyone else bought an ebay starter for their ls1??

They are perfectly fine. And this is the one you want. I've had it for a long time and its very strong. You can see it has BOTH mounting brackets beefed up and this starter includes the additional longer bolt you will need. It prevents the shorter bolt starter from breaking...and then breaking the mount on the block when it twists, which is a royal pain in the *** to fix. Trust me......

I doubt that the duralast or orielly's everstart or whatever **** they sell is any better than ebay stuff. I've yet to have any issues with their starters but have had countless issues with their (autozone) alternators and batteries.

eBay: ........ $74-79.00
AutoZone: .. $179.00

They are cheap chinese crap. However, that doesn't mean they wont last as long as a reman duralast will. When the cheap ebay starter goes out, don't cry and dont pout, just buy another starter and move on. Do not expect that cheap piece of **** to last as long as an OEM starter. If you know what you're buying and accept the terms of it, you'll be good to go.

Are duralast made in the USA? Or imported from China. Their website doesn't boast about being made in the USA so I doubt they are good ol' american made either.

But i dont know for sure

Autozone stuff is not my 1st choice anymore, thier warranty is great but changing parts out every year isn't worth it. I'm going to adavance and buying new for just a little more than rebuilt at atuzone.

AutoZone and just about all the retailers carry new stuff and it comes at a premium at all of them. Its probably worth it in most cases.

I had ordered one new Ls1 starter (~$70-80) thru EBay. I forget their name of seller come from Georgia and with lifetime warranty. I have no problem with it for years.
