If you are running aftermarket high-pressure springs watch out. Mine was a bad roller lifter skidding on the cam.

It could be in the matching surface of the starter to the flywheel or flexplate

but right on startup? i would think if it was the power steering pump or a belt it would be making the noise constantly not just for a half a second on cold start please explain.

Although it's tough to know without hearing the actual sound, however your description sounds a LOT like the starter matching up to the flywheel/flexplate. Had the same issue with my Corvette.

Belt. Heard it before, many times. Neighbor recently replaced a bad belt that did exactly that. Squealed like hell when started then went away till the car was cold again. If you want to test, take the belts off. Turn the car on for 5-10 seconds, then immediately back off so you aren't running the car with no belts.

It never happens on a warm start?

Try removing all the belts one night to quickly eliminate a belt or PS issue.

I had this and it turned out to be the main idler pulley. Screetched only on cold startup.

No need to replace, just remove it, clean and grease it. There are 4 of them in total on the engine.

Yup, this ^^^ If not, I say make sure it's not one of the check valves for your AIR system. Black check valves that run into the exhaust manifolds from the AIR pump can sound like that when they are faulty or plugged. Not your AC system, but rather the AIR system. Mine sounded like a hissing/screeching sound until I replaced these. I don't know if it's the pump that makes the sound (from surplus pressure resulting from plugged check valves) or the valves themselves. You should get a code pop up for one of your banks (1 or 2) if you do a scan. Let us know if this is the case.
