Default Strange Noise from under hood
Hey guys, I have an 02 ss. Automatic, 82000 miles. Sometimes while driving I hear a weird noise that sounds like an air compressor coming from what seems like the driver's side of the engine. It only does it for about 3 seconds then stops. The air/heat is not on when it happens. Any ideas?

sounds like your AIR injection pump, but its only supposed to come on right after you start it up for a few seconds then shut off.

yes definatly the air inj pump.. i have heard mine come on a couple times while driving but mainly startup. sounds like a vacuum cleaner

Yea it sounds like a vacuum cleaner! And it comes on randomly while driving. Is it bad for the air injection pump to come on? What the hell is it?

Its factory emission crap.... Mine is just turned off with the tune.

I like that sound haha. It's my "all systems ready" noise before preparing to engage on my journey... to work. Or the grocery store :-|

it injects air into the exhaust on start up,when the engine is cold and running rich.maybe your engine is running rich or a sensor is going bad.
