Question Power steering pump noise

Recently installed a rebuilt Cardone power steering pump in 99 z28. While it installed easily and bled properly, it is noisy when turning the wheel and turning effort seems a tad harder, but that's not a problem for me. I used NAPA power steering fluid (bluish color).

What makes the pump noisey?
Should I try different fluid?
Should I get another pump (this is the second I got from the distributor, as the first one wouldn't bleed down and actually almost seized (shaking and almost spun off the pulley)?

I wonder how many people get bad re-build PS pumps. Cardone, from my research, seems to be the higher quality rebuild. I guess it depends on how tired I become of reinstalling the pump - LOL.

Thanks for the replies.

what is the price for a good working part? buy junk or cheap rebuilt parts from unknown sources usually gets you know where, a lifetime warranty isnt always a great deal either, just a lot of weekends replacing parts.

Are you bleeding the right way? You need to turn the steering wheel lock to lock a dozen times or so with the front wheels off the ground and the car off. Do that first, then if the fluid is still full start the car and check for bubbles. If not top it off and repeat. Pumps usually aren't bad outta the box. Even cheap parts store remans.

Mine whines the entire time the car is running.

I tried putting the car up on jack stands, taking the cap off and turning the wheel a bunch, it did bring some bubbles up, also if I pop the cap after a drive it releases air pressure, I'm sure it's just air in the system still.

I got a new pump, hoses and rack all at the same time form cardone. My old one I couldn't make left turns really at all. New one is fine just noisy, so I deal.

Did you have the car running when it was in the air? It should be off and preferably cold.

I did the same thing. After installing the pump, had the front wheels off the ground, engine off, and turned from stop to stop about 30 times. Did have some bubbles in fluid, and it needed to be topped off. After that, with wheels still off the ground, started engine, cap off, and again turned from stop to stop about 30 times. Fluid was fine and no more air bubbles. Put about 100 miles on car since then, and still noisy. I've seen several posts where people had noisy pumps and replaced their fluid with synthetic and it ended the noise. Will try that in the next several days.

Should a pump with no air in it still make a "psh" noise when the cap is released right after driving?

The guy that did my rack said he thought the cap had a check valve that would vent naturally, but mine doesn't. There's a dimple though..
