Check the output at the alternator with a vohm meter. If you have around 13 or so volts trace the read and blue from the alternator back to the pcm. You have a break in the line somewhere.

Alternator may not be receiving a signal from the exciter wire. I agree, there is likely a break somewhere if you've now seen this with two different alternators.

if that wire checks good i would test that battery when it is hot the lead plates can swell and act like a short to ground good luck.

Is there something that connects to the back of the alternator? Looking again there is a square 4 pin connector on the car, a broken red wire, and and the alt there is a oval 4 pin female end. so what am I looking for?

That broken red wire is the exciter wire. Sounds like this is in fact your issue. People often end up accidently ripping that wire out during alternator swaps.

You will need to fix this to get the alternator to charge again. I can't recall off the top of my head which pin that wire needs to be attached to though.
