That's the one I mean, it flashes while you're trying to start it?

Yes the light flashes when I try to start it but thought the vats wouldn't affect it when it was running and gauge reads 10v

That's a VATS issue if it's flashing when you try to start it. Could the car have died for some other reason while running and then the VATS problem kicked in?

Do you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key to "on"?

Sounds like a charging problem, the voltmeter should be reading 13-14 volts when running; or 12 volts with the engine not running.
At 10 volts you have a dead battery.

Try some jumper cables, see if it will start.

If you have another car or a friends car, drop their battery in, see if it starts. If it does, let it keep running and disconnect the negative battery terminal, if the engines dies you have a bad alternator. Get a new one and charge your battery.

Im not saying this is the problem, but the Crank Shaft Position sensor failing or acting up is just about the only thing that will cause an engine to just shut off out of nowhere while you are driving.
But since the starter won't even engage.......I would say its something else.

If your MAP, CMP, OR CKP send different readings to the ECM that don't match up it will shut the door on everything and kill the car. Have you tried clearing any DTC's even if none are showing in between start ups?
