Default VATS locked me out of my car at emissions! How to override?

I just bought my 99 trans am a few days ago, went to the emissions olace to see if it would pass since I need them in my county.

the tech brought the OBD scanner into the car, then it wouldn't start. couldn't even start it push starting. the key can be turned like it should, but it wont crank at all. battery is good. the alarm goes off too when we tried to do pretty much anything.

I'm thinking, since sometimes the alarm would go off when I unlocked the drivers door (last owner didn't have a key fob).

So I think the VATS security system locked me out! How do I get my car starting? Is this the correct walk through? http://vats.likeabigdog.com/

This will help you...

I used this on my last car, it was easy and worked great.

Did you get it figured out? Is the security light on/flashing? I would try cleaning the resistor on the key, or try a spare key.

Tried cleaning the key and still no start. Will try the walkthrough I posted in first post, if that doesn't work I guess I'll buy the Passkey and with the fastest shipping available.

Just buy the passkey now, eventually it will fail on all of these cars. I messed around trying different things until I finally got pissed and bought the pass key. Took about two hours to get it all hooked up and everything...drove it for years after that with no problems.

You could also have it tuned out.

+1 for this, and have them throw a tune in it also.

Maybe so but first I need to actually START the car..it's sitting in the emissions lot and the city is basically shut down because of snow.

We can delete it in the tune, if you want to send in the ECM!

Default vats

from what I understand only the fuel shutoff can be tuned out. if you have a problem with the vats it still won't crank over. just do the vats mod, takes maybe 30 minutes tops.

bcm controls the starter. so the pcm will let it run tuned out but you would have to jump the starter. yes just do the resistor mod

PROBLEM SOLVED: I soldered in the correct ohm resistors (as specified in my original post link) and it cranked right up after waiting 10 min after the alarm stopped beeping.

Thanks for the suggestions guys!

good deal. My '96 Z28 did this and it wouldn't run. I actually had the car started and the security light started flashing. It shut down and then i couldn't start it anymore. I went and measured the resistance across the key, got the resistor for that value and soldered it in. never had an issue again

only thing is now the car is throwing a security code. a buddy says it wont pass emissions with a code tuned out (which he did) until the monitors all say "ready".

How do I pass emissions now?

i'm not sure how they can even see a code that's fully deleted from the car. Also it's not an "emissions" code or a safety issue so there should be no reason for them to not pass it. This is why i'm glad MN doesn't have checks on this ****
