Ram Air HELP PLEASE
Hello. I just bought a 98 TA without ram air. I bought all the OE parts to convert it. Everything is installed, OE hood, OE ram air box (with K@N filter). I just started it and it had an erratic idle at first and when I touched the gas the idle went through the roof and would not idle down. What am I missing here? Thanks in advance....

IAC gets its command from the PCM of course....via data from the TPS, MAF, IAT and I think the 02 sensors.
So check that you connected the IAT sensor that is mounted in the air lid.......and the rest of the sensors.

Thank you. I never disconnected any of those. I used the air baffle that was already on the car as its the same as the ram air baffle so no sensors were ever disconnected. While I was waiting for an answer on here, I went out to it and swapped back to the non ram air box and its running perfectly. Any thoughts?
P.S. I wonder if any non ram air sensors have to be changed for ram air sensors? If that even exists as im brand new to 4th gen F bodies.
P.S.S. I also just noticed that the used ram air box I bought has been modified, the base has been cut wider. (I assume to let in even more air?) Will that affect anything?

The IAC is the problem....its staying open......
Here it is: IDLE RELEARN Procedure
Put key in ON position
Unplug IAC
Turn key off
Wait 30 seconds
Turn key on, leave on for 30 seconds. You should see a SES light now too.
Turn key off.
Plug IAC back in.
Turn key on.
If you can, verify with a scanner ( with key ON only, not car running ) that with your foot off the gas it's reading 0%, and at WOT it's reading 100%.
Your done.
Now here's an IDLE relearn:
PCM Idle Learn Procedure:
Automatic Transmission:
1 Turn off the ignition
2 Restore the PCM battery feed
3 Turn Off the AC controls
4 Set the parking brake and block the drive wheels
5 Start the engine
6 Allow the engine coolant temperature to reach 176 degrees F
7 Shift the transmission selector into the drive range
8 Allow the engine to idle for 5 minutes
9 Turn on the AC controls (Omit for 2000-01 model)
10 Allow the engine to idle for 5 minutes (Omit for 2000-01 model)
11 Shift the transmission selector into Park
12 Allow the engine to idle for 5 minutes (Omit for 2000-01 model)
13 Turn off the AC controls (Omit for 2000-01 model)
14 Allow the engine to idle for 5 minutes
15 Turn off the engine for 15 seconds
Manual Transmission:
1 Turn Off the ignition
2 Restore the PCM battery feed
3 Turn Off the AC controls
4 Set the parking brake and block the drive wheels
5 Transmission in neutral
6 Start the engine
7 Allow the engine coolant temperature to reach 176 degrees F

9 Allow the engine to idle for 5 minutes (Omit for 2000-01 model)

11 Allow the engine to idle for 5 minutes
12 Turn off the engine for 15 seconds

I do have that sensor its just not in the air box, its behind it, in the baffle. I swapped out the lower (raised) part and the top (cover). that's all I swapped. The air baffle I left alone because its the same on the non ram air and the ram air. That piece has the sensors in it. I never unplugged any sensors to swap the air boxes.

Thats your IAT sensor right there on top....the grey plug. It looks like its mounted into the silencer box.......you should remove that silencer box...it doesn't really do anything.....
Anyway....that sensor needs to be mounted into the new lid or whatever you are using. It should read the air temp right before the air enters the MAF and then the bellow tube......
The picture that TechCam97 posted shows an aftermarket air lid.....they all came with the port to remount the IAT sensor at that position you see in the picture.....

I seem to be loosing you guys here. The problem is NOT the IAT sensor. ALL I replaced is the front air box. I did not replace ANYTHING behind it. I replaced the OE low rise (non ram air) with a OE high rise (ram air) box. Just the 2 pieces, the lower piece that the filter goes in, and the lid. I didn't replace the silencer box (what the IAT is in) because its the same for either front air box. Again NO sensors were disconnected to do the swap because I didn't change out any parts that had sensors.
