Default accidently drilled a hole in the top of my gas tank

I have a 2000 pontiac t/a ws6. I cut a second trap door next to my gas lines on the left side or the fuel pump assembly.I made another plate to fit over the hole I cut.I accidently drilled a hole in the highest part of the tank. I formed a thin metal plate over the hole and used JB weld to put the plate in.
After I did this I was wondering if Jb weld is gas resistant. I guess I could run half a tank of gas all the time.So what do you guys think?

Don't you have a plastic tank? Why not use resin?

if it were a pressurized tank and the hole was on bottom, you may have issues, but I think you found the fix.

you could always put some rtv and a screw into the tank .

What kind of resin would I use? There is another type of JB weld that is more gas proof.

How big is the hole? You can easily thread plastic and put a plug in it. You can also easily use a 2 part ribbon epoxy made just for plugging gas tanks.

I was once screwing something down in one of my old hondas and when I took the screw out I could smell gas, so I just put the screw back in and never had an issue, the car was either flooded or wrecked (can't remember which one I did it to) a few years after the incident with the screw.

From my experience, regular JB Weld won't seal a damaged gas tank. It will seep around the edge of the repair. But JB Weld makes a product called "WaterWeld" that's specially formulated to work on gas tanks. It works well.

You may be fine though since the hole is on the top of the tank.

I got some JB Weld water weld. It says it is resistant to everything. I will keep an eye on my tank and will probably grind the original formula off and use the water weld at some point.

for a single accidental drill hole, all you need to do is find a screw that will fit and bite into the hole and use some gasoline resistant permatex orange rtv.
and you could even use a tap and tap threads into the hole.

edit... what the guy in post 4 said.
