Default Noisy AC compressor...

lately my ac compressor has been making a light chirping noise, it has been getting slightly louder and louder. and overall my engine makes ALOT more noise when my ac comp is on. any idea what it could be? it has a fresh belt so I doubt it's that. Thanks guys

Did you check your idler pullies? It could be one of those. I had her on a lift and stuck a metal pole to both of the idlers to find out if one of them was making the sound.

Whatever it is it shouldnt be making sounds. You need to replace it if you have the money.

your compressor might be getting ready to blow like mine, i've really only heard of that on 98s though...

Probably is the compressor but more load could cause the idlers to make noise also. Just trying to give you something to check for.

Sounds exactly like the Clutch on the compressor. Had this happen on a jeep and one of the trucks here at work.

On the jeep the clutch siezed and the belt just rubbed on the pully... that was fun.

Do they still sell remans? I went to O'Reilies for a AC Compress last summer and all they had was a new AC Delco for 400

I just bought a remanufactured compressor for my S10 at O'Reilleys last night for $199. They pushed for the new one for $400+ though. Works great.

I was thinking about getting a junkyard compressor, how hard are they to install? My mustangs was really easy.
