Default Low oil light

i have a 98 Z28. i just bought it and the sticker in the window says i have 2k more miles to go on my oil. it has Mobil 1 5w30 in it. this morning when i started my car, my low oil light came on, i shut it off and checked the oil. the level is fine. could stand maby a half a quart to bring it up to full but its well within the normal operating range. anyways, i started it back up and it was still on, then i shut it off again and it went away. today at work, i left to get some food and it came on again. i shut it off and started it back up, then off again and back up and it went away. after work i started it up and it was on, i tried this off and on twice thing and it didnt work. when i got home i shut it off and started it up again for ***** and giggles to see if it would go off and it did. so what is my problem? do i have a fulty light or is the 1/4 or so quart of oil missing enough to throw the light?

It's my understanding that the low oil level doesn't come on unless it's about 2 quarts low.

Can't see your link - maybe it's the sensor? 12579985, screws into the passenger side of the pan.

not on a 98. 99 was the first year for the oil change light.
im talking about the "low oil" light, not the "oil change" light.
