Default Anybody have the cats replaced by GM on their 2000 Camaro?

The previous owner of my 2000 SS gave me the paperwork from GM that says the cats are covered for 10 years or 120K miles due to known problems. I can smell the rotten egg smell from my car so I'll probably have the local dealer put new cats on for free. Has anyone else actually had their's replaced by the recall?

They will not replace them due to smell. The car is going to have to have a logged error specifically for the cats for them to warranty then.

I had mine done twice and this was the only way GM would touch them and only the offending side would be replaced. So I removed both of them and never looked back.

I think you need a cat inefficiency code first - P0420 or P0430 depending on which side it is. Thats how it was under the federal emissions warranty.

Yeah, I assume you need a code indicating failure but since mine smells funny I'm getting ready for a failure.

Hmmm......Interesting, I just received a notice from GM last week regarding that they'll replace my cats free of charge if they act up within 10 years from when I purchased the car. Unfortunately the notice doesn't mention the issue with the cats.

It's 10 yrs from when the car was put in service, not necessarily when you bought the car.
And make sure it's not just a bad o2 sensor that is throwing the code, cuz then they'll charge you for the diagnostics, and send you on your way....
