Recall Information: 2000 Camaro's w/LS1 Engines
I just received a notice(Not a recall) from Chevrolet stating that these vehicles may have a left or right catalytic convertor failure.
They say that they are extending warranty coverage to 10 years and 120,000 miles on these convertors at no charge, and if they fail they will be replaced at no cost to vehicle owners.
Anyone else received these letters lately? Anyone have a failure?

What about 1999 F bodys? I think my right cat is leaking. When i am warming it up (it is that cold in iowa right now) I see exhaust filting out through the rear and under the K member where the cat is. One of them also rattle when im taking off. i guess the cat is shot?

I think GM's standard catalytic convertor warranty is a federally mandated 10 years or 100K miles, but don't quote me on that.
I'm at work now, but IIRC, the letter refered to only 2000 model year cars...if it went out to other year owners I'm sure we'll see similar postings soon.

Quoting the letter:
"As the owner of a 2000 model year Chevrolet Camaro your satisfaction with our product is very important to us.
This letter is intended to make you aware that some 2000 model year Chevrolet Camaro vehicles, equipped with a 5.7L V8 engine, may have a failure of the left of right catalytic converter."
Goes on to explain that there is no need to go to a dealer unless you think you have a failure. States that they have extended their protection until 10 years or 120K, whichever occurs first, no charge for repairs. Includes a form intended for use in reimbursement claims, promises 60 day response for said form/claim.
That's it guys.

My car has been recently throwing an SES light code P0439. I just assumed this was a bad cat or something. Dose somebody who received this letter have any more information about this recall, since when I spoke to the dealership they had no idea what I was talking about.
Thanks

I got it too, my car is a 2001.
This affects all 2000-2002 LS1-powered Camaros and Firebirds.
It's not a recall, but it extends the warranty on the catalytic converters to 10 years / 120,000 miles.
Should one fail during that time, they will replace it free of charge.
Also if you have had catalytic converter replacement done because of failure and had to pay for it, you can get reimbursed for that cost.

Yeah I got the same letter today also. At first I thought it was something serious, but once I read the letter I laughed b/c well... my cats are no more I had the drivers side cat replaced last year under warranty anyway, when they were still on the car.
