Default What am I missing here - Button below gear shift

I just bought this 97 Trans Am and I'm not sure what button belongs here, look like the top of it got ripped off somehow. Traction Control?

I believe that would be a switch for sport mode (or something to that effect) for the transmission. I have seen that on some LT1 cars. It's not for TCS, my car has that and the switch is on a panel in place of that little cubby to the left of the cigarette lighter.

Just curious, do you know if you have 2.73 or 3.23 gears? You can tell by looking at the RPO code sticker on your driver's door. If you see code GU2 in there it is 2.73, if you see GU5 it's 3.23.

The button is for arming nitrous. It's your car's own way of telling you.

It's a GU5.

Seriously, that's all it is, a transmission "sport mode" button?

I'm not sure what they are, but they are definitely not in the car anymore. That's from the day I went to look at it.

I can't say for sure that it's a sport mode button, I'm just guessing. Does the button still work? Try turning it on and see if it shifts differently.

I was going to say something about the floor mats but you took care of it. Did you also remove the condom hanging out of the glovebox?

I dont think it is the sport mode button, I think it might actually be the 2nd gear start button. Some of the older GM cars used an actual button where the newer ones now just lock into 2nd when you pull the shifter back to the "2" position.

Doesn't look stock. Didn't they put all the transmission/TCS buttons in the box in front of the shifter?

I'm pretty sure my manual showed that 2nd gear start was only an option on V6 F-bodies and not the V8s.

I'd be more concerned about them not giving you matching front seats! LOL We need a better pic of the switch to see what it is.

The drivers seat has some sort of seat cover/pad on it, I think it was mostly to cover the ugly rips in the seat.

I'll try and get a better picture of the button. The previous owner said the guy that be bought it from might have put an alarm in it, and maybe that was installed with it for some reason...
