Default Stiff Power Steering

My power steering in my '99 Trans Am WS6 turns stiff and makes the noise. I can feel it trying to kick in at moments, but is overall falling behind. Is this because there's something wrong with the whole power steering system, or is it because it's low on fluid?

Can rain stiffen the power steering?

Midas offers this service for free? That's fantastic!

But do you have to hire them for some other service in order to get this?

I'm new to cars in general, and don't know much about any of these places (Ammco, Midas, etc.) Is there a particular company that offers better service to Trans Ams than others?

Thank you very much.

Yes, if it's raining hard enough, or you drive thru standing water. The pulley /belt assembly will slip if it gets wet enough. However, the power steering will return to normal as it dries out.

If it is staying hard, check the fluid.

i think it will be pretty hard for the pully to get wet when the pump is on the top! but yea i guess if ur car is low enough it can get to the crank pully but if u have a worn out belt thats when the rain i guess can effect it!

Actually, it hasn't happened to my TA. I was thinking more along the old style v8 with separate belts. Wasn't thinking about the serpentine belt....

Sorry 'bout that

I'm afraid I've discovered a continuous leak from my power steering. I don't know if it's coming from the motor or one of the hoses, but I've used two bottles of the Lukas power steering treatment liquid and it's still leaking, but slightly less than before I used it. How long should I give the treatment to see if it works before I take it to a shop?

If it turns out that the motor has to be replaced, would there be any substantial cost difference between buying the motor separately and hiring a professional to install it and paying for both at a professional shop? If so, is there a particular PSM that's better for the '99 TA than the rest?

It has been determined that the leak is coming from the high pressure hose. Can power treatment fluids repair a leak from this hose, or is it futile?

you better just get a new hose man. its a pressure hose. even if it did work, stop leak doesnt fix a problem. only puts a band aid on it.

Gotcha.

I was thinking I should stop spending on fluids if I'm going to have it replaced.

Thank you.
