For what its worth, alot of gm product have the "cold solder" joint problems. Wiper motors are notorious for this. If you have one go out, open it up reheat all the joints. You will be surprised how often solder is to blame.

I just wanted to let you guys know that this fix works great. I had exactly the same problem as the OP with the radio and power windows in my 97.

I have seen it many times as well. I couldn't count how many times I have fixed chevy truck window motors this way.

Damnit, I wish you could have posted this just a week earlier as I ended up purchasing a new unit after what seemed like months of trying to troubleshoot mine. I must say however good work on finding a solution on how to fix these units

Even though i just put a new BCM in my car I figured I would go out to the trash and dig out my old BCM To my suprise I found very tiny cracks on one of the solder joints in the exact same spot you showed us earlier. I tryed to snap a pic of how mine look however not sure I can get a good enough macro pic of the crack.

I used this method to fix mine also. My trouble was coming from the lowest part of the T shape. That is where I had all my cracks. They were impossible to see in light, but when I took it outside and looked at it in natural light I could see them all. it worked awesome! Man, I'm so glad I found this thread.

ls1tech to the rescue once again. i just now finished this and havent had too much time to test it but so far my 11 mile test drive was problem free.

i was having all kinds of issues, windows not working, radio shutting off intermittently and sometimes not even coming back on, RAP (retained accessory power) inop. these all sound related and this fix sounds like it would do it.

So my stereo cuts in and out as well as all you guys....I am guessing my BCM is cracked as well. It's behind the glove box correct? What screws do I need to take out and how do I go about taking it out to get to it? Can someone post a picture of the screws that need to be removed in order to get to the BCM please. Thank you very much!!

WOW, saw this the other day and thought I'd try it. My stereo and windows didn't work this morning on my way to work and during lunch, I pulled out the BCM and although I didn't notice cracks, the lower pin on the T shape was pitted so I heated it up and added a bit more solder. Plugged it in and BAM! everything works!!! I'll keep you'll updated on this issue 'cos until I drive it/etc. I'm not sure if that was the issue to begin with or if it was something like my lock cylinder <-- could it be?

My 99z has been doing it for over a yr. I will be doing the fix tomorrow. Great thread. Always happened at the worst time, like toll booths, restaurant or bank drive thru windows.

BCM has nothing to do with your tail lamps, fog lamps, etc.

Typical chevy problem. My friend's TA did the same thing.

It's a VERY common problem with chevy trucks in the wiper circuit. Just replaced one the other day for a customer.
