Newb needs help plz...My '00 WS6 overheating when stopped...
ok last night went to get some food for lunch, drove to McD's, about 4 mins away. Got there ordered and when waiting for my food i noticed the temp gauge shoot up to bout 240-250 then it sounded like my fans went into overdrive but the temp kept getting higher. it wasnt until i drove off that it went down back to just below 220 but on the way back to work the temp kept fluctuating between 220 and 250, a few times almost hitting red. Any ideas what might be wrong? Any help will be greatly appreciated because this car is my baby. THX... -JWC

That is pretty vague. A number of issues can affect engine temperature. Any radiator issue, coolant level, bad gauge, you name it! If your car is your baby as you state, then run it to a reputable dealer or repair shop who can narrow it down for you. Don't keep running it with high temps or you could be asking for engine problems. Good luck and I hope the remedy is minor for you.

gotta tell ya man, the shop that replaced my opti were morons, they blew both of my fan fuses and my car seemed like it was going to blow up it almost redlined a couple times.
check your fan fuses, maybe one is blown. i believe you still have 2 fans.
thats what did it for me, one of my fan fuses were blown

I have had yo-yo problems on other cars, that a
small steam hole in the thermostat plate fixed. If you
have coolant stagnation then the 'stat does not "see"
what's really going on up in the heads. Air bubbles
make it bad, steam will do it too and to suppress
steam you need a good cooling system seal (rad
cap?) and fans that are on early so things never get
past the "boiling point".
Cheap things to try are cleaning the radiator cap
and seat (pressure retention), if you don't want to
just put a fresh one; "burp" the system to get any
trapped air out; clean the radiator and A/C condenser
of the accumulated debris that robs heat-throw
ability; get your fans programmed lower (and verify
that low speed fan, comes on when it should).
