Default Problem with drain plug

Ok since ive had my car i have been geting my oil changed at the shop because ive took on more hours at work and im getting lazy but now i decided to do it myself so i bought me some ramps and attempted to change it this weekend but the drain plug would not come out so how do i get it out

Lefty=Loosy ....Righty=Tighty .....I assume you are not tightening it by accident are you....otherwise use a longer wrench for more leverage.............OR..take it to a shop and see what they can do.

You can try to heat up a little and then attempt to twist it off. Or spray the outside for about 24 hrs prior to taking it off and see if that helps.

pb blaster, let it soak, put socket on and give the ratchet a few whacks with a rubber mallet

depending for high the car is jacked up , use a breaker bar, it will break loose like butter....

I hate how shops do that... I also hate how shops tighten up oil filters too...


Follow all those tips above and it should come off... I really think hammering away at a wrench with a mallet should suffice... Once it's off, you tighten it your way and you never have to worry about crap like this again.

a cheap way to gain leverage in tight spaces is to use a larger box wrench and put it on the end of the bar of the socket wrench, you'll gain a lot of leverage even in a tight spot under the car.

impact wrench is my weapon of choice for something stuck and so easily accessible.
