2002 SS Camaro won't idle
So I'm relatively new to the 4th gen camaros, I've been a die hard 1st and 2nd gen owner. Anyways I just picked up an '02 SS LS1, 6 speed, 48,000mi for $9,000 which is why I bought it. However it will not just idle if I don't keep the RPM upwards of 900-1000. I'm wondering what could be causing this? The battery was completely dead and has no life in it at all, so we jumped it and got it running and I'm thinking not having a battery taking a charge could have some effect on it? The guy I bought it from hardly speaks english so it's hard to understand what mods he did to the car other than the obvious bolt on stuff. Basically he upgraded the valvetrain with better valves/springs in the heads and a little bigger cam. Do I just need to have the car tuned? I'm a little lost so any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks everyone.

No check engine light. The security light is on and I'm not sure why that is either.
I think it's a great deal, blue book is $15,500, he's getting rid of it because he can't afford any more tickets and the insurance. I've got a diagnostic scanner program on my laptop with the cable to hook it up to the OBDII on the car and see what all the read outs are so I think I'll start there and see if anything abnormal is happening.

Mine started to idle high too lately at about 1200 RPMS when A/C is on only. Someone recently suggested it could be my alternator starting to go out. You mentioned your battery was dead.

Check the voltage, sitting and running, check the compression, look every thing over.
If have not seen this car run on it's own, it may have deep down problems.
Good luck. . . . . Hopefully it is something simple.

Correct me if I'm wrong... But this happened to me when I had a dead battery.
Apparently, the car needs to relearn the idle postion/rpm. I recall there was a procedure to do this.
I just started it and drove, and shut it off a few times and it was fine.... all after I replaced the battery.
