Headlight Problems! Please Help!!!

Headlight Problems! Please Help!!!
My headlights turn on and off when I lock or unlock my car. Then, my driver side headlight makes a horrible grinding/rattling noise. This also happens when I turn my lights on and off manually. When I look at the top of my light (when it is in the down position) there is a gear looking thing that spins really fast and makes the noise. It is missing the rubber piece that the passenger side has.
Has anyone had this problem or know what to do? Thanks for your help!

The noise you hear is the plastic gear inside the motor grinded down. I did the fix with the brass gears, but a few months later it happened again. I say you just shoot over to autozone and pick up another motor, and save yourself the hassle of swapping geas or turning the plastic one 180*.

Someone was selling entire GM headlight motors with the wiring relays for the lights brand new in the box for 100 bucks each on ebay... I replaced all of them in both my TA's.

Yeah, just replace the gear. For most people this will fix the problem. For me, however, i replaced the gear no more than 6 months ago and it's grinding like mad again. My thread is w/in peripheral of yours actually. I'm just gonna replace the motor and be done w/ it. It's a pain to muff around w/ that gear, especially if it's just going to fail again :/
Like i said, it works for most people. But there are cases...

And a superb sticky it is!I referred to it when I had my problem and was VERY helpful.
I've got to say though that I checked Advanced Auto for the motor and it was around 78.00 - with this in mind I probably wouldn't order the gear, just replace the whole motor/gearbox.
