Could be the sensor, they are known for going bad on the 98's. Could be you pinched the O-Ring on the oil pump when installing it. Either way, I would not run it until I found out which one it is.

We had a 02 camaro the guy started it up when it was like 10 deg out and didnt really let it warm up and his gauge read 0 too ended up being the vavle in the oil pump housing was stuck not letting oil to top of motor and same thing happened to my buddy after he REBUILT his top end vavle stuck and blew the motor......i would take the time and put a auto meter mechanical oil press gauge on it and see what it says 60 bucks and ur time putting it on better than rebuilding ur motor

You need to tell us what mild rebuild means - exactly what was done?

That's about the one thing I don't like about LSx engines, no easy way to prime the system or spin the oil pump like with sbc's.

Ive seen some pump or something that can be used to prime and pump oil through the engine using a port right next to the oil pump in the block.

I think most of us want to know if you had to drop the oil pan and remove the pickup tube from the oil pump. We still can't tell from your description.
IE- Was the oil pickup tube disturbed in any way during your buildup - did you change the timing chain or drive sproket???

If so you more than likely pinched the O ring on the pickup tube....at least that seems to be the causational factor in about 70-80% of these cases.
But seeing how you list the intake swap - then you could have cracked just the pressure sensor.

i put the motor together outside the car. I'm thinking the o ring on the pickup tube got pinched when i swaped the oil pan.

Most of the time a pinched o-ring will still net oil pressure.I'm thinking a pump or the barbell oil plug in the back of the block is missing.

i had that problem in my car and it was the pressure relief valve inside the oil pump, it was stuck open so it wasnt building pressure. like slowhawk said there is usually a little pressure when the o ring is pinched. im guessing the oil pump.

I was going to ask if your pump came with 2 different o-rings. Most do, and if you accidently use the wrong one, it will have no oil pressure.
