All you NEED is new springs. Some get new (hardened) pushrods, and new retainers, but they are not required.

Re: Hotcam Macs w/ORP & Magnflow. Witness the Music!!!
I drive around 70 miles everyday in my car and I love every second of it with the hotcam
Unfortunately my clutch didn't enjoy it and I fried it roughly 3k miles after the cam swap.

I drive my car everyday, except in the rain and snow (nothing to do with the cam!) It is absolutely fine in an M6. An A4 would be fine also with PROPER tuning.
Dollar for dollar, I think GM's Hotcam is a great choice. It comes with LS6 springs, and it has a relatively low lift (.525) so you don't have to worry about changing springs ever 15-20k like other higher lift cams. The whole hotcam kit is only $399. You can also buy a complete "cam swap kit" from one of the sponsors, usually about $30-40.
There is no doubt I could probably squeeze another 10hp out of a different cam, but it means more headaches with more expensive springs, pushrods, less P/V clearance, etc... I am more than happy with this cam.
My heads are completely stock besides the springs. (Stock LS1 heads flow well)

Heads are completly stock and I imagine I picked up 15-25 rwhp (total guess on that one) with an awesome tune from combination motorsports in vegas. My car is dying for some LTs though. As soon as I get my clutch installed and broken in I should have some dyno numbers posted. I don't know what it's worth but combo motorsports was saying that the car pulls pretty hard for it's mods
TaTommy said it best as to why to chose the hotcam over the other billion cams out there. And since I've gotten the cam I see alot of people looking at the car at the light.

On another side note if you plan on doing heads the hotcam is probably not the best choice for you as you don't take advantage of the extra flow with the heads as compared to other cams. It really comes down to how far you want to go with your current setup. The hotcam is more for the daily driver who likes lope and doesn't want to change the springs for a long time. How fast do you want to go waterbug?

I just dont know if I am looking for that much lope in my ride.
Tommy
clip is before cam (idle), then after cam (idle). i only took idle clips because my car is running fucked up as is and i dont want to put unwarrented stress on it until i can start pulling it apart again.

Depends entirely what you can live with. With an M6 it will idle, and it will run. You may have to crack the throttle blade a tad, or drill out the idle hole...
If you NEED it to cold (and hot) start without ever touching the gas, then you will most likely need tuning. If you want to get the most out of the cam (like any mod), you need tuning. WOT A/F WILL change with any major mod.
If you just want to throw the cam in, enjoy the lope, and can live with occassional startup issues, then you don't "need" tuning.
It's entirely up to you.
Tommy
PS If you had an A4 then you would need it badly
