Default manifold questions trying to learn about ls1's

I just bought my first ls1 car and its a new world to me
(formally a mustang man owned 4 of them)
I'm trying to find out what the difference in manifolds
like the ls6 intake, fast 90,i'm sure theirs other kinds also
what are the differences in price and hp,and torque gains between these intakes?I currently have a 00 ws6 so it has the stock ls1 intake on it right now.
also do you need to change the throttle body from stock when you up grade intakes or does the stock tb work fine.
if the tb needs to be upgraed what size and brand

my current mods are headers, true duels and mail in tune

my goal is to make 400 hp and torque
will i be able to make this on the stock heads or will they have to be upgraded

thanks for any help

To get 400 you could go with a big cam and get that as it sits. Ls6 has a little more area inside so thats more air good for prolly 10 or so. FAST 90 has a 90mm TB opening and that makes it flow alot better. You could go with a LS6 manifold for 350.00 or so in the classifieds and a tr228 or maybe bigger and hit 400rwp

How much hp is it making right know? You could always spray 75 shot or bigger and get over 400hp.LS1's like the nos! Also the 2001-2002 F bodys came with the LS6 intake.I think everyone is trying to get their hands on the Weiand Street Warrior it's a new intake and claim is better then the Fast intake and cheaper.Street warrior runs about 650 and Fast 900

Do you think it will ever hit the market? I am starting to think it's just a myth.

The Street Warrior has no release date.. One of the development companies have folded. It's unlikely to come out, in the least anytime soon. Most likely never. 98-00 came with the ls1 intake. Which flows horribly (swapping it should be in the first mods with a cai and lid). 01-02 came with the ls6 intake which is a decent option. With a port and polish on the throttle body the ls6 is a very cost effective option, for a decent intake. The Fast 92/92 combo seems to be the best, esp in the upper rpm band. It's expensive, imo worth it. I see guys with an ls6 that are cam'd w\bolt-ons they don't post quite what that fast systems have. If you are ok with 10-15 hp on the table (more with more mods) to save $500 or so, then the ls6 seems the best option. There is debate over low end torque loss, the dyno doesn't show it. Having driven ls6 to fast, I didn't notice it. Check out some sponsers here, you can find fast set-ups complete around $1100. As far as the other intakes, some are aluminum subject to heat soak, others just are too expensive.

Oh and as for real world gains, they obviously vary, but http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=5 that guy gained a peak of 24rwhp, 14ftlbs of torque, going from ls1 to ls6 manifolds. Seems around the average gain. Do some searching and you will find a lot of dyno graphs giving you a better idea of different intakes.

When going to Fast you will need a throttle body. From what I understand the fast 92 tb isn't fully 92 mm all the way though. I don't know if that is fact. I went with the Nick Williams 92mm. Seems to be a popular choice and great quality. With headers already done you will see a bigger benefit from a manifold. Which year do you have? Which trannie do you have? I believe with a decent cam you can reach 400 rwhp with stock heads on an m6.

Man I would do a set of heads and a ls6 intake and if you have the money do a cam. I ran a patriot stg.3 set of heads and a ms3 cam went 11 flat in the 1/4 made over 400hp

A bigger intake is not going to help you unless you have the bigger heads and cam to go with it. There is no sense in putting a fast 90 on a stock cam stock head ta you will not see any hp or times at all. I would put that money toward heads and and cam add the intake later. Keep in mind when changing all this stuff you will have to find someone that can tune your car it will not idle with the changes. Find a good tunner in your area to. Hope this helps man
