Default SLP or Kooks?

I am looking to upgrade my exhaust system on my 2001 firehawk m6. at the time it is completely stock. i want to go with a gmmg exhaust, catted y-pipe, and headers. i was thinking of ordering the headers and catted y-pipe from slp, but i have heard that these are the worst for clearance. i have heard awesome things about kooks, but was wanting some feedback from some people that have them. once i put my headers on will i need a tune? let me know what y'all think. thanks.

KOOKS cough cough the old slps had a bad rep of scraping from being too low. The new ones are supposed to be better but due to their customer service I would give kooks the business.

No you dont need a tune, mine is currently untuned and just has the ses light on for the cats and air system. However if your done modding afterwards a tune from frost would be beneficial... thats my xmas gift to myself lol.

If the car has an automatic transmission, you could cause problems not getting a tune. Anything that results in a big power gain, means you make more power at any given throttle angle than you used to. Transmission line pressure is not based on airflow, it's based on throttle angle, so IF you have an automatic transmission, enough bolt on mods can result in transmission damage due to slipping, even at part throttle, due to not modifying the transmission tune to account for the engine modifications.

Cant say that I've ever heard that in fact most people wait till they're done modding sometimes months to years before getting a tune. After talking with frost he even stated that he doesnt really touch the tune on the 00-02 cars for the trannys much and removes torque management which would increase the shock to the tranny at WOT. But hey whatever floats your boat the OP has a 6 spd anyway.

If you are open to other stuff I would check out ARH (American Racing Headers). I have their 1-3/4 headers with their catted y-pipe and they are awesome. They also have amazing clearance and fit.

if youre gonna buy new might as well get the kooks. Only reason to get slps (old style anyway) is if you got them cheap like i did. Mines been running fine untuned until i get a cam.

kooks and slp... there is no comparison... that's like comparing a viper to a geo metreo. Kooks all the way.

Had a set of SLP's on my previous car. Just put a set of Kooks in this car. Even though the kooks were 1 7/8ths the slid in better and have better fitment. Kooks all the way!

Kooks FTW

I base my decisions upon...

I mean does that even look like you would have any ground clearance?
