Default When did your stock waterpump bite the dust (mileage)?

I've had a buddy's bite the dust before, and I'm at 42K miles and my car is overheating like crazy at idle/rush hour traffic. It was an all of a sudden thing which makes me think waterpump, not a clogged radiator.

Mine started forming a lake under the car at 96000mi. Did you check your coolant level? Are your fans turning on? Could be a stuck thermostat.

I had a similiar problem. Not totally overheating, but getting above normal temperatures. I had mine powerflushed and that cleaned a lot of the crap out and then I had a 160 thermo installed, which helped a lot. Also had the fans turn on earlier. I havent had a problem since.

actually, i work at a chevy dealership and got to say thay these pumps are very reliable. i have had to replace very few on some trucks but they were over 100K. this does not happen very much and alot of the times it is only the gasket. you should also check that. you pump might still be good.

The old style paper gaskets went out on mine at 50K, so I just put on a new pump with the new style gaskets.

My money is in the thermostat. I had the same indications. All of a sudden the temps started rising. I pulled the thermostat and found the seal had come apart. I replaced it with a stock thermostat and I have not had anymore problems in the last year. Drain the radiator, pull the thermostat. It free to check it.

i had the same problem before,
the temp went up all of a sudden when i was driving in Las Vegas in July HOT... the temp went up and i thought it was the water pump, i took it to the dealer and they told me it might have been the theromstat, i replaced it with a 160 stat and everything was fine then,

so i recommend you check your thermostat first and you might want to get your radiator flushed too.

No, I got u beat. 4 miles. Right off hauler. I worked for the dealership so I was right there when it was unloaded and I took the keys. I put it on the lift and it dripped in my ear. Looked up and weeping it was. Wasn't lookin for it. Was lookin for anything else though, like damage. That and Moonsuck 500 wimp speakers that keep blowin are the only thing that I had replaced. Tranny is startin to get odd though.

Ok, Ok, you win

BTW- Do you travel down Florida and around Airline frequently? I am pretty sure I have seen your car.
