Ported LS6 Intake?
Would a ported LS6 intake improve performance? Would it gain at least a bit on 1/4 mile times/horsepower? I have all the bolt-ons with a stock LS6 intake.

Ive done it twice....thees not much if any casting flaws inside....they flow so well when there left alone....when I ported mine it took forever and it appeared I got alot of material out...but I didnt change the shape of anything I just blended alot. Ive heard theres no measureable gains by porting one. I have never ran a stock ls6 intake myself. I always ported mine before putting them on. So i dont know what a stock one vs a ported one would feel like, if it felt like anything at all.

Can you port one safely...yes...is it easy no...you gotta find what speed to run your tool at...what bits to use, what grit work best for you,etc....I practiced on a ls1 intake and I wasted it fast.....learned alot and made sure I had it down before doing my LS6 intakes....

jeremy f on this forum does ls6 intake porting, and has shown gains of 12hp/10tq, i think its stage 2 porting, and its 400 bucks. i guess if someone had information on what needed to be done with the intake for maximum performance id be good to look into.
i think theres another vendor that does some LS6 intakes, under the table. ive just seen those numbers on his website...maybe he will chime in and help us out

i didnt port mine but before i installed it i took some 2k grit sand paper and ran it on the runners a little to smooth them out. check out the mods in my sig under Dyno and i put down some good numbers. i dont know if that helped at all, but i cant imagine it hurt anything.

yeah, theres quite a few threads, but all of them lead in the direction of 'buy a fast' 'dont mess with the LS6 intake'
theres a few people that i know of thats successfully ported the intake and had some decent numbers to go along with it. i know ive seen 12/10 improvement, so whats to justify buying a fast if you already have an LS6 intake and can possibly get those numbers out of it? on a stock car, even h/c car, those are pretty good gains for using your tools, and you keep 1200 bucks in your pocket, and are only down 5-maybe 10hp over a fast.

don't touch the intake. it was designed very well from factory and was designed for high velocity, so if you do port it you might make things worse, regarding the air speed and that makes an efficient intake

Really looking forward to some people with some how-to's, pics, and results with a ported LS6.
i guess another option besides cleaning up/port matching the runners is up the stuff to 85mm, ive seen cheap 85mm TBs for less than 200 bucks, do away with the rubber gasket and run paper. ill have to find some results on this, im sure ive seen this.

good question man, just as the website says stuff like "stage 2 porting avaliable" lol. idk, maybe just based on how much time is in it i guess...

Stage III ported TB is my all time fav though. Stage III being epoxy, lol. I guess.

That's not true. I have spent alot of time testing & commenting on the subject & am don't spen much time re-stating the findings. Basically, an LS6 peforms best when ported to 85mm w/ an 85mm TB. The last mod that should be performed on an LS6 intake is a runner porting. First are filter, TB, CA intake size, then 85mm MAF, LS6 opening to 85mm w/85mm TB. Only port runners if you have tuning software that measures & confirms that the runners are a restriction. This won't be the case until using high flowing heads w/ an aggressive cam. Even when the runners become a restriction, it doesn't take much porting to get them where they need to be.

your right LS1-450, ive read a few of your threads and remember them now that you talk about when the intake is the restriction. just wondering for the price of the modifications vs. what you can do yourself. i know your understanding me here, because i know of a thread or two of yours where you modified the LS6 and got good results.
and orangeapeel---i get what your dishing about the stages. i hate it the most in the tuner world, EVERYthings in stages, i got stage 2 turbo, stage 3 fuel system, stage 3 computer...ah! it goes on! just a simple stage, but it just doesnt tell the whole story...
