Default LS1 Style heads fit on LS3 block?

I have the trickflow 215cc heads on my LS1 at the moment. I was wondering if I bought a LS3 block, would the heads be a direct bolt on to that block? I understand that the heads on the 2 motors are different but do they bolt the same way and would this work? What else would need to be changed? Thanks

Default Heads

I think they should bolt right up but the combustion chamber on the ls1 heads is prolly smaller then the ls3.

Because of their comparatively small bores—3.89 inches—LS1 and LS6
engines can only use LS1, LS6 and LS2 heads. Using heads designed for
larger engines will cause valve-to-block interference. The larger, 4.000-inch
bore of the LS2 enables it to use LS1/LS6 heads, as well as L92-style heads
(including LS3, LS9 and LSA). The 6.2L engines (LS3, L92, etc.) can use all
production heads except for the LS7, while the 7.0L LS7 and C5R blocks
can use any LS-Series head. LS7 blocks should be matched with heads
designed for at least 4.100" bores; 4.125-inch bores are preferred

so the answer is , YES

They'd work. But, you could probably make more power using stock LS3/L92 heads.

I understand thank you. I plan on opening up the bore size on the heads I have and dropping in larger valves. I just wasn't sure if the heads would bolt up to the new style LS3 block. Thanks

Why would you think I could make more power with the L92 heads over the Trick FLow 215cnc heads I already have. The L92 heads do flow a little better but we all know that CFM isn't everything. You might make more peak power with the L92 heads but I can almost promise you that you won't make as much across the power band than the Trick Flows. Using these heads with the larger motor will increase the compression ratio to around 11.8-1 and make tones of torque very early in the RPM range. Thanks again man.

What about everything else on the motor? Do all the sensors match up to or will I need to do some fabrication to make the LS3 work. Thanks again.

I want to bring this thread back. Using the ls3 valley cover with ls3 block. Using ls1 style heads and intake.... will a factory ls1 oil pressure sensor screw into the ls3 valley cover?

I can't answer that but I can tell you the LS3 knock sensors are in a different position.

I'm aware of the knock sensors... racetronix sells wiring to relocate them.
